Potato pasta or rice - Mouths of Mums

Hello!

Just curious what most of us are having more of during the week? I grew up with a lot of potato, my husband grew up with a lot of rice. We now have a mix but he’s been told by the dr that he needs to limit the amount of rice he eats due to pre diabetes. Apparently basmati rice is better than jasmine rice for this reason so we will be swapping. What does your family eat more of?

  • In our household weight, a variety of mashed potato roast potatoes, pasta and rice. I also love to do just a simple little vegetable dish with meats without pasta rice or potato. I also love just cooking up a giant mushroom and some meat and a couple of beans and some carrots that are simple and easy to prepare. I really do love pasta and would eat it every day but again it is something that I try to avoid so that we get a variety of food throughout the week.

  • At the moment eating more pasta because our toddler has only a handful of main meals he wants to eat, and things like veg, lentil and beef Bolognese ticks all the nutritional boxes. Rice at least once a week, and mash potato and pumpkin maybe once a fortnight. We eat a lot of veggies in our meals and potato is a bit of a filler veg

  • Probably we use about an equal amount of these in our household but we don’t use a massive amount of these. We eat probably one time a week on the most a pasta type and I prefer the pasta type containing legumes (beans, chickpeas, lentils), we probably eat one time a week rice and I only use basmati rice indeed. I use potato’s for a roast together with other veggies and the ratio of potato’s is little. I like the replace normal potato’s with sweet potato’s and other root vegetable where I can. We have quite some days we use neither of these 3, for example crustless vegetable pies/bakes/quiches with plenty of eggs and lots of yummie veggies.
