If not already mentioned, google up Iselect, comparethemarket.com and membersown.com.au – they compare private health funds. Once you have seen what they offer, then I’d approach a few private health insurers and see if they have any specials or waiver periods on. Good luck and I hope you find something suitable, I think we are paying a lot for health insurance these days without much reward.

You really to compare quite a few funds – and beware of wait times too – some items require you to have been a member for a set number of months prior to claiming.

Some fund we’ve looked at all seem to be about the same for the cover we need. My fiance has spine fusing problems, i had/have(?) endo, heart problems and a couple skin cancers and my daughter needs glasses and has slight hearing problems. I’ve been advised by my dr to get onto iui for 3 courses and then ivf as soon as i can in case my heart problem gets worse. We’d need to pay an excess to have iui or ivf covered before first 12 months is done if we changed funds. I was hoping that someone was in a miracle fund that gives full cover for less than $300 a month haha.

You need to find out how long and what extra cover you need before you succeed in getting pregnant too.

Best to go online and use online calculators to compare funds. It will compare and give you the best value funds for your situation.

I have top cover with Australian Unity for IVF. We pay around $300ish a month (top hospital and basic extras). I only get back from the health fund the difference of the medcare benefit and medicare set fee (if you get what I mean).
