Hello!

Does any mums like using public transport? How do you do it with small children? I have done it a couple of times but with 3 little kids it can become hard. What are your tips? Do you like it?

  • I have three kids, too. It’s not easy on public transport especially if you still have one in a pram. I try to use stations that have lifts or ramps and always travel off peak. If we go into the city I try to use tram stops that are elevated and trams with a lower platform

  • I used to catch a train weekly with my toddler to go and see my parents. It was tricky, especially with a stroller and no lifts only stairs at the station, but I managed. It would be more difficult with more than one child, and I don’t think I’d even attempt peak times.

  • Public transport is not bad but l prefer a car any day!

  • I’m more a fan of our car for convenience factor as well as not having to juggle all the kids and their stuff plus any shopping you may have done. I do like public transport with the kids but kinda as a treat when we’re going somewhere – so it’s exciting taking the bus into the city etc.

  • yeah with the kids i prefer to use the car. it is way easier plus i don’t waste time waiting.

  • When my kids were small I was very worried about controlling them in public . I was more comfortable if someone came with me but of course sometimes it is impossible . When the kids are in a pram , I found the train is most easy to get around as there is generally more room for the wheels so took the kids to the city a lot those days . With buses sometimes I find the drivers are not really that helpful so tried to avoid it as much as possible .

  • Yeah it might be easier just to use the car especially now that number 4 is coming :)

  • I find it too much with kids – people aren’t helpful and very rarely will move to accommodate makiing it uncomfortable for me and the kids – and the kids just complain.

  • Up until my daughter was three I used to catch the train once a week. I used a fold-up stroller, and that made it much easier.

  • I did when my children were young and to be honest I now look back and wonder how I ever did it..but I was young and it was a necessity at times.

  • I just have one child and we always use public transport or walk. No problem at all.

  • I am very fortunate to not need to use public transport often. I have on occasion jumped on a bus and I hated it. I don’t think they’re child friendly at all and the fellow passengers can be quite scarey for me let alone children

  • Only done it with one child – made the mistake of using pram to begin with – too bulky and difficult – even on train. A lot easier when the child(ren) can walk along by themselves. Also found that the trip itself wore the little ones out. Is fun and we do it often by ourselves and with other families with same aged kids – but not until all are at least 4.
