My mum was so excited when I was about 10 to get fancy glass ones from myer on the boxing day sales (when boxing day sales were actually sales) they do look prettier.

Usually buy what is on sale at the time!

My Christmas tree ornaments are mostly what the kids make at school, with a bit of tinsel and some lights for good luck. It only appears once a year, if you want splashy, go for it!

Christmas is a time, for family, for giving, helping those in need and charities often need extra funds to, cope with demand – I’d rather spend my money where it counts

I know this is an old question but I would have to say quality. We buy each of our children a good quality (but not overly expensive) Christmas ornament each year and when they leave home they will have a set to take with them. We’ve been collecting Russ ornaments for years but they are becoming hard to get.

Both, I have some cheapies that have sentimental value, like who can throw away the paper mache decorations from 10 years ago made with love at kindy, but I hide these behind the nice decorations, also there is the option if you have two living areas to have a fancy nice tree in the main area, and the sentimental one in a family room.

I use “cheap plastic” never had an issue

Tough call I brought glass ones this year the end result its only the 11th and they are all smashed, went back to my plastic ones they may be bent but atleast cheaper to replace

I just buy a few decorations each year at end of year sales. I never buy expensive decorations.

I figure while the kids are still young and often making Christmas decorations at school for the tree, I will stick with plastic and maybe just buy a couple of nice quality ones in the sales each year then when they’re a bit older (upper primary age?) I’ll probably invest in some more good quality ones. I don’t know how old your kids are but I think it’s nice while they’re young to make their handmade decorations the focus of the tree.
