Hello!

My 17 month old is a fussy eater and I’m struggling with lunch and snack ideas. She loves her fruit but seems to be getting bored with it. I’ve discovered tofutti which she loves. She can’t eat nuts and reacts to tomato. A small amount of tomato is ok. Any recipes and ideas would be great.

  • just make normal food – and ad soy or rice milk instead of milk to ones that need mild. Also, lactose free can still eat yoghurt a couple of times a week ( I am one!) Good luck


  • Sorry, I forgot to say you’d want to make them with a lactose-free cheese, which is readily available.


  • You could try Cheese and Apple Quesadillas, which are easy to make, and even a toddler can hold a piece and feed themselves. You can make them with a lot of different fillings, and they’re also popular with grown-ups. If she likes them, as she gets older, she can help you to make them. Fillings are only limited by your imagination.


  • If she likes fruit, make some fruit kebabs and serve with a lactose-free yoghurt, or a fruit puree for dipping. Also, if you’ve got some metal cookie cutters, use them to cut some fun shapes from different vegetables, and use them with pumpkin puree or savoury lactose-free yoghurt for dipping.


  • Substituting dairy with rice milk or Coconut milk for a creamier mouth feel would be my suggestion.


  • There are more lactose free options these days. I used to make my daughter custard with soy milk and she loved it. That way she was getting some egg and protein as well as calcium. You could try rice or almond milk too.


  • My daughter is allergic to the protein rather than lactose so she cant drink lactose free milk but when I substitute almond milk and nutlex into cooking no body really notices.
    Otherwise my 2.5year old loves
    Chicken Korma made with Coconut milk
    Tortilla (Spanish Omelete)
    Shepherds pie with a bread crust instead of Cheese
    Chicken pastas with an olive oil based sauce

  • do watch out on soymilk… they are not very good for kids

  • You can also sub dairy with coconut milk.


  • Shepard’s pie using lactose free milk or A2 milk. Lactose free yoghurt is good too. Dark chocolate ( make sure that it does not contain milk, as some claim to be dark but are not really), lactose free cheese by Liddell that actually tastes like cheese! You should browse at the supermarket at the healthy food section too!
