Hello!

I would love to know how other mums store and organise their recipes. I have bookcases full of cookbooks and also boxes full of cut out recipes and pages I’ve torn out of magazines. I have so many it’s overwhelming. Please help!

  • I have a display folder – the ones with the plastic sleeves inside – and I slip my favourite recipes in that. I have donated a lot of my cookbooks and only kept a couple of my favourites. These days I find recipes online.

  • I used to have them in a big ring binder on alphabetical order with tabs in between.

  • I have a ring binder folder for the recipes we use most often – some I’ve typed out and then printed, others are in plastic page holders (especially if it’s my only copy).

  • Same problem,l have a box full of recipes l need to address!

  • I have a similar problem. I have some recipes on the kitchen bench in a plastic folder sleeve which is getting annoying . I just threw a lot out lately because I know I wont use again . Maybe in your case get yourself a large school ring bind folder and store them in plastic sleeves. That way when you want them , you can go straight to that folder . Buy the biggest available and you will have heaps handy in one place .

  • Get rid of the cut out recipes you haven’t used in a year. You can always google up a recipe if you need it. Print out or organise your frequently used recipes into a display folder. You can also bookmark frequently googled recipes. We have a ton of cookbooks and I tend to mark frequently used recipes and put cookbooks i don’t use much to the bottom of the bookcase.

  • i heard this good tip the other day. for all those throwaway, cut-out stuff, take a pic of the recipe and then you can store on your computer or phone.

  • Thanks for all the ideas ladies

  • I re-type our recipes & print them then keep them in a display folder.
It is so handy because I can flick through the recipes & don’t have to worry about damaging the pages! All cook books are kept high out of little hands reaches.
Some magazines come with little cookbooks which I also re-type & print out & keep the books.

  • I found a recipe box that I could do scrapbooking. Its wooden and you glue it together and then decorate it however you like. I then made recipe cards which I laminated and placed into the relevant sections of the box. I have also a cute recipe book where I write in recipes and it has little pockets.
However the main thing I do is ask myself will I make it, use it. If not, it goes in the trash.

  • I put my recipes in display folders.
I find i can keep them quite organised this way.
Often I cull through my recipe and reduce them down. I collect alot and have lots of doubles. :)

  • Apart from making my own books as commented below – I also love hunting for unique and interesting recipe books. I have some very odd and quirky ones and love them.

  • I put my fav recipes in a flip folder so when i need them they are easy to find.

  • I wish I had a solution to this too! I love to collect recipes. I find myself doing it online more using Pinterest. I have all my recipes organised in different boards. So much easier then looking through a folder or book.

  • I have beautifully decorated my own recipe books and have pasted in recipes, written down recipes and printed recipes and taped them to the pages. I love to make the pages look beautiful and I also give the recipes ratings and tab them for easy access. It is a fun activity!

  • I have fear I can’t really help. I’ve got a lot of cooking books too. I have one notebook where I wrote down my favorite recipes but I haven’t updated it for a while. On the computer I regularly save recipes I like. Those are quite organized. I’ve got Appetizers, First dishes, Second dishes, Meat, Desserts, Snacks, Drinks, Ideas for Christmas, Ideas for Easter, Halloween and so on. Inside each category there are then subdivisions. For example in the meat file I’ve got chicken, turkey, lamb, beef and so on. But they are simple Word files. I could do better than that! :-)

In my life I changed a little bit my way of eating, and in the last years I’m cooking more healthy. I’d like to write down these recipes in a binding folder. I’ve got too many recipes written here and there. While they should all stay together.
