Ours was bought 30 years ago from an Asian grocer in Victoria, and it’s been the best kitchen appliance in our house. It’s a Japanese brand ‘National’ not sure they still exist though.

Our family is from Asian background and we were brought up on rice cookers since the day we were born. Some people buy them overseas in asia then change even change the power plug because there is so much to choose from . Last year, I just got a mini one (2- 4 people ) from Woolies fo under $20.00. I worked out with this one it gets a bit stuck ( over though it has a non stick coating ) is when I put less water than usual so when it boils the rice is a bit dryer so it sticks underneath the bowl . There are a lot of Asian stores that do sell their own , so check those out , or simply go to a dept store like Bing Lee and I am sure there a few to choose from . All the ones I have come across is press the button and it cooks , then it auto warms the rice , so basically all should be simple anyway .

I am glad i foudnt his post. I have a cheap rice cooker but it just stcks and doesnt cook too well.
Might give Sunbeam a go.

Most rice cookers these days are pretty good. I prefer rice cookers with a sealed lid. Atm I have a 10 cup tefal but when it dies I will buy the sunbeam 7 cup rice cooker as I never ever cook more then 4 cups for a meal. The tefal is huge and take up too much room in my small kitchen. Saying that if you need a 10 cup rice cooker it is very good.

well i have had a few cookers and cooked rice on the stove but i love to cook rice in the microwave! so easy and it turns out perfect. i don’t really use my microwave for anything else except the occasional re-heat so my point is, i love home cooked, stove cooked food and flavourful food and i actually think that microwave rice is great!

I have the breville one. Its great. I even do my risotto in it.

I have a cheapie Kambrook one but it’s only got a 5 cup capacity. I found that KMart currently have an 8 cup Kambrook rice cooker for only $30. I like my Kambrook and have no complaints with it. I don’t know why I waited so long to get one – it is probably my most used appliance!

I sold small appliances for 25 years and Sunbeam was always the best seller.

Sunbeam ones are decent and do a pretty good job. If you did change your mind and want a few more functionality Panasonic has a few that aren’t too expensive.

Sunbeam seems to be a good brand.

We have a sunbeam also, it was only about $29 from Target. That was a couple of years ago. It truly is a lifesaver and really quick!! That’s going while you are preparing the main meal. Can’t go wrong

I bought a sunbeam one and it was the best thing i ever bought the risotto it made was amazing it was non stick but then after a year it decided to die on me then i boug ht a cheapy one from big w and its not as good at all .
