My running buddy has just revealed she is 12 weeks pregnant, are there any other runners out there? How long did you run too into your pregancy?

  • I was a waddler from very early in my pregnancies! There was no way I could get up anything approximating a run.


  • Not sure I would have been capable of running whilst pregnant. Probably the most running I did was to the toilet to vomit!


  • I’ve never been a runner, pregnant or not pregnant! I would suggest she get the all clear from her doctor and just remember she’s pregnant so maybe not go as hard as she did pre pregnancy


  • As long as she has regular input from her gp about exercise and pregnancy, I see no issue with it


  • I can’t remember but check things out with GP; make sure that you wear a ‘support’ for belly if you need it since it can help prevent saggy skin/muscles afterwards; take care with pelvic floor and don’t over do it!


  • My pregnant friends run and love it and follow their GP’s advice. They are fit and healthy and fine.


  • I didn’t run but did step classes. I was a regular and continued right up to 36 weeks pregnant. Then I turned to swimming. Running is obviously a bit different as I would do low impact as I got further along in my pregnancy which is a bit tricky for running. But it made me feel great.


  • Have you seen the stories on Michelle Bridges? She’s still doing it all and she’s 6-7 months pregnant. She’s toned everything down and checks with her Dr, but she’s doing fine


  • if she has been running for a long time, no worries, she could run right up to labour (there was a 38 week preggo marathon runner on the news!) if she has become pregnant and took up running, then she should consult the doctor due to potential risks.


  • I’m not a runner as in marathons or anything like that but I would normally do 5km a day on the treadmill. I continued at the gym until I was 36 weeks but stopped running at about 26 weeks. I’d recommend either talking to her trainer or doctor as everyone is different.
