Hello!

Last year, when my child did her school break-up day, her school wanted the parents to bring along a plate of food.

Last year I made the classic egg sandwiches and nutella fairy bread fingers and I made those because I was stuck for ideas. Do you have any suggestions about recipes or cute little ideas that i could try this year?

Ii don’t want my dish to get wasted or to get lost in the sea of egg sandwiches because these things cost money and time.

  • kids love to eat small things so Cupcakes or chocolate crackles

  • I think a fruit platter is a good idea.

  • Mini quiches or mini pizzas. Muffins, sweet or savoury. Pin wheels (sheet of puff pastry, spread with tomato paste or BBQ sauce, top with combined grated cheese, chopped bacon and chopped onion. Roll up tightly. Slice into 2cm pieces. Lay flat on greased baking tray. Bake at 200*C for 15-20 mins)

  • Also; fruit on skewers is always a hit too.

  • I love fruit; watermelon is great for using cookie cutters and making fun shapes. Always a hit with kids too.

  • Marshmallow and strawberry skewers, kids love them.

  • Rainbow fruit skewers, you can cut off the sharp points after skewering to make them safer

  • Chocolate fudge or chocolate biscuits are normally good with kids.

  • I usually just give my kids a family size pack of mixed lollies

  • homemade Vegemite scrolls
puff pastry spread with Vegemite and cheese roll it up and the slice into thin scrolls.
egg wash to make it go golden brown
bake at 200C until golden brown.
or you could do it with brown sugar and ground cinnamon to make a sweet version. super easy and very cheap.

  • Two years ago with my daughter we prepared these little men for the school Christmas party. All the kids loved them. There wasn’t even one left! Hope you like the idea!
    (Olives, tomatoes, carrots and celery)

  • thanks ladies for your suggestions so far. i am loving your ideas!

  • I hope the teacher has ensured there is no allergies. They have a duty of care. When supplying food you need to be aware of food allergies of children in the class. Some schools state that they are nut free. Instead of Nutella you can use Scooby Doo Chocolate Mud Spread. There is a guarantee that there is no risk of cross contamination. It is also dairy free for those allergic to lactose, has no artificial sweeteners and is made in Australia in a nut free factory.

  • Celery and carrot sticks with dip always goes down well
Muffins and slices are good too – i try to avoid chocolate in the heat so it doesn’t become a melted mess.

  • Nut free would be my sugestion
I am making chocolate coconut balls
It’s 4 ingredients and very easy

As most children will love them and doesn’t take long to prep

  • Watermelon, Pineapple or other fruits are always a refreshing and healthy snack and seldom is there any left over or wasted.

  • healthy muffins/cupcakes are always a win
    quiches
    fruit kebab
    Hope this helps
