Hello!

I am worried about my 8 month old baby boy. He doesn’t sit by himself and is not crawling yet either. He hasn’t had any teeth erupt yet which really increases my tension. Kindly share your experiences and advice.

  • It’s great that you’re being observant and monitoring milestones but don’t panic. My granddaughter didn’t get her first tooth until 11 months. For your own peace of mind I’d suggest an appointment with your child health nurse or GP for reassurance.

  • There’s no exact age when your baby should sit, crawl, walk, has it’s first teeth or say it’s first words. Some children are late bloomers. One of my children walked with 10 months, one of my children was over 2 years when she took her first steps !
When you have concerns look in your blue, red, or whatever color book you have and contact the nurse at your practice for an consult. The nurse can refer you to a specialist when there is an indication for that.

  • this question was posted 2 years ago – hope you resolved it. I always check the blue book and the gp if I’m concerned about anything – can always be referred to a specialist if need be

  • It is probably fine but I would go and see your MCHN

  • I bet he will all of a sudden do it all very quickly, when you least expect it!

  • I am told that boys develop later than girls and I really think that all that we are fed with whilst pregnant can be helpful but also harmful as they are all different and there are no set rules.

  • How did he end up going?

  • how is he now? 🙂

  • How is he going now?

  • My daughter didn’t start getting teeth until later too and in hindsight it was a good thing 🙂 She had little interest in crawling either but if you are worried consult your local health nurse

  • Every baby is different it just takes time

  • My first daughter didn’t get her first tooth until 12 months old, she didn’t crawl until 10.5 months and didn’t sit until 9 months old. Every baby is different

  • My 9 month old is sitting however has no teeth and showing no interest in crawling. Every bub develops at their pace.

  • I wouldn’t worry so much. I read somewhere that in general, boys are later crawlers/walkers than girls.

  • There is no exact age that babies are meant to do these things, they are all different.

  • All babies develop at different stages, at 8 months my daughter wasn’t crawling, or any teeth either

  • This is perfectly normal. All babies develop at different times. Try not to worry

  • Seriously A-Edwards!! That is NOT odd!! The first teeth can come through as late as 14 months. My daughter got hers at 12 months.

  • You’ll hear this constantly but believe me it is true when they say that every baby is different… I got a little worried about my daughter at one stage as she was crawling but still couldn’t sit up by herself… Then when she got to walking she held on to the furniture for what seemed like a really long time before letting go and walking by herself…
I think we all have a tendency to over think these things as there is so much emphasis placed on these achievements by our peers…
If your boy goes much past 12 months without any progress I’d say have a good check up then but In the meantime try not to worry too much…
Growing teeth means teething and no sleep for either of you…
Crawling means a whole hell of a lot of running around for you….
Maybe you are just lucky and you get to enjoy your baby being more of a baby for a little longer – they grow and change so quickly!

  • Waw no teeth? I hope someone can help u. It is odd
