Hello!

My 5 month old rolled over onto her tummy for the first time 10 days ago and I’ve been so terribly anxious 😟 about night time sleeps ever since!
She hasn’t learnt to roll back onto her back yet and I’m worried that when she is on her side or tummy she may suffocate in her sleep?? We have a baby sense pad on her cot but I’m so worried I’m not sleeping….I Constantly wake up and check on her…..am I being paranoid??

  • Barbie should be able to turn their head to their side and have that strength. Continue to focus on tummy time to build on that. Above all else you could always keep a monitor to hear out for crying or noises if that helps keep your mind at ease. Good luck!!

  • Thanks ladies for the advice, this has made me feel not so alone in feeling this way.

  • You are not paranoid, you’re normal. I remember this period as agonising. My GP assured me that if my baby was rolling, he’d be able to turn his head if he needed to, but that still didn’t really assuage my concerns. I can only say that once they’re rolling, it doesn’t take long for them to learn to roll back.

  • It’s totally natural to be nervous in this time. I was the same, continually getting up to check on bub once he was rolling. If you are still swaddling or using a sleeping bag with arms tucked away, now is the time to transition to arms out. Keep up tummy time during the day and help encourage them to roll back onto their back. It’s impossible to say stop being paranoid, I know I didn’t chill until mine could roll both ways. Hope she learns it quickly

  • It’s normal to worry, it just comes with motherhood. Most babies generally learn to turn their heads to the side themselves. If you consider that not turning back is normal for generations of children over the years then you may worry a little less. You will gradually relax more and more. The sense pad should be and extra dose of reassurance.
