Hello!

I have a 9 week old and he is bottle fed. He feeds and seems full but then in 2 hours he is screaming because he is hungry again. I feed him when he is hungry but then he vomits it up and I’m not sure what to do. I have asked the doctors opinion and they said do not change his formula. However I was wondering if a change in formulas might keep him full for longer?

  • He might just be cluster feeding. I would change formula for that reason

  • When he vomits are you sure it is not reflux as both my kids had reflux in the early stages and I had to burp them over the sink a lot of times because they actually do bring up milk from that condition . I would discuss this with the childhood nurse at the baby clinic and find out why he is vomiting and bringing up his milk .

  • I’d say he isn’t hungry and that he just has a pain which he is mistaking for hunger. Try burping him or tummy time.

  • add an extra scoop of formula or increase the amount you are giving him…. make sure he has no wind also.

  • What did you end up doing?

  • Might be lactose intollerant, try changing to a soy formula. The Maternal/Child health nurse usually keeps samples, if you get a few days worth you can try it without buying a tin and then you’ll know if it’s going to be worth making a change.

  • how did you go with it?

  • We changed our night feed to Sweet Dreams formula but if there are issues you may need to be persistent with the doctor

  • Did you end up having to change the formula?

  • Just keep feeding him, hopefully he will get the right amount that he needs

  • Could be reflux – speak to your GP.

  • Did you end up changing his formula?

  • Hmm it could be that when he’s screaming 2 hours after his feed hes not hungry again, it could be a belly pain. Are you burping him after his feeds? He may be swallowing air that stays in his tummy, causes him pain, then you’re feeding him again over-filling his tummy causing him to bring it up. Just a possibility. Otherwise, seek out a second doctors opinion.

  • Hope u get ur answers

  • His not 9 months lol 9 weeks so cruskits are bad and he will choke, feed him whenever he is hungry if his spewing he’ll want more good luck =)

  • Always listen to your doctor don’t change the formula even when breastfeeding babies do spew it up and they always get hungry quite frequently however breastfeeding would have been better because you just put your baby on whenever they are hungry and it is alot better for your baby then formula :-)

  • I would listen to the doctor.

  • If he is 9 months,he may be able to have some cruskits. My childcare used to give to my son instead of teething rusks.

  • Some formulas are weaker than other, it may not be agreeing with your little one

  • I had the same promblem with my son was screaming every two hours for a feed…I tried making him wait out and I even filled the bottles up an extra 50ml but nothing seems to work I had him on nan but I changed the formula to Karicare gold and havwnt hdd the problem since! His thriving and now goes 5 hours without a feed I hope this helps
