Hello!

Would you let your 12 week old baby sleep on their tummy if they seem to prefer that?

  • No it’s not recommended.

  • NO, as they can suffocate if the face goes down and block their nose. Doctors and health clinics always reminded us about that part .

  • Safe sleeping guidelines (SIDS) recommend putting them to sleep on their backs.

  • I was told don’t put them on their tummy but if they put themselves that way leave them they are obviously capable of moving around :)

  • When my children were little we told not to lie them on their back. So I always put my children to sleep on their sides. I couldn’t tell you the amount of positions I found them until they were bed age. They will do want they will, especially as get older.Put in them the position you want when you put them down and maybe check once or twice but they will find their position.

  • Both of mine were tummy sleepers. I couldn’t get them to sleep any other way. It was more dangerous for me to not let them tummy sleep as I was getting no sleep at all. I kept an eye on them and you can get a breathing monitor if you are worried. Mine both had good neck control and could lift their heads.

  • My daughter prefers to sleep on her side now. This started when she was about 4 months. We have the sensors mats in her cot so if anything happened the sensor alarm would go off. If they sleep better that way and you get sleep then I don’t see why not. If you are going to be up all night worrying and checking them I’d get some sensor mats to put your mind at rest.

  • Yep my youngest preferred to sleep on his tummy. Yes he was constantly monitored but babies in the prem ward sleep on their tummies all the time.
