Hello!

I recently visited my local shopping centre to find a new store catering for plus size women. I was appalled to see that plus size apparently starts at a 12. Is there anyone else out there that has seen these shops

  • I always thought a size 12 is a medium sze

  • Never heard of this but I suppose they are just wanting to carry a wide range. Perhaps if they only stocked size 18+ they might reduce customer base too much. (But I don’t know why someone of ‘normal’ size would wander in a store advertizing as plus unless buying for others).

  • Oh wow dont think I will be visiting that shop anytime soon

  • Yes I have, and I think its disgusting. I have found that originially it was 18 was plus size, then 16, then 14.. Now 12. I know city chic when they first opened, their xs was the same as a size 16…. now their xs is a 12/14.

  • If 8/10 is small how is 12 plus sized? Crazy

  • What the….I’ve never seen or heard of this before. It just sounds ridiculous.

  • It isn’t plus size!!

  • I haven’t seen that in stores but I don’t see why they need to have a specific ‘plus size section.’ Why don’t stores just have the one size grouped together instead? I guess I don’t see it because I like wearing men’s tees because they fit better and are longer.

  • Oh no what is the world coming to it was bad enough when it was 14 no wonder there is such a self image problem

  • Is it possible it was put in the wrong place or did it have a Plus label on the clothing item?
I have found clothes on the wrongly labelled hanger too.

  • Also; sizes have changed over time and they seem to vary according to different stores.

  • I shop at a number of different places and do not care about the name or size of clothes – I wear what fits and suits my style.
I am not sure what shop is referred to in the question?

  • I know! Who dictates these rules. I feel awesome at size 14. I feel healthy. I work hard. Validate ourselves!

  • I think it’s a justa starting point for them to go by when it comes to sizes. But I do not think a size 12 is plus size.

  • 12 isn’t a plus size!!

  • Unfortunately, clothes retailers are following the Asian market now and anything over size 10 is considered ‘plus size’. Absolutely ridiculous and Australian retailers need to set their own example …. i.e. treat Australian women as Australian women and not compare their sizes to Asians!

  • I’ve never seen that before! I’m a size 12 and never considered myself plus size. That’s is ridiculous!

  • I haven’t however since they have been making clothes based on the sizes of Asian communities etc a size 12 probably comes under plus sizes. It’s a tad ridiculous though.
