Hello!

So I have pretty much had problem skin since I was a teenager. I am turning 30 this year and I have just about had enough of breakouts! I have had my hormone levels checked at the dr a few years ago and everything is balanced but i still go through stages where i have the skin of an oily teenager. I eat well and drink plenty of water, I use good cleansers and toners, moisturise with a non greasy moisturiser….I feel I am using the right things but my skin still gets so horrible! It is the same with my hair too, it gets quite greasy at times. I am really sick of pimples I should have nice skin at my age!The anti-acne products are way too harsh for my skin so they don’t work. Thanks in advance!

  • Try the contraceptive pill. My daughter says her skin has improved so much because of that . I didn’t realise it had that benefit at all .

  • My skin was so bad when I was a teenager I was on medication to clear it up. As an adult I’ve also tried laser, chemical peels, facials and microdermabrasion. The thing that worked best for me was seeing a good beautician every month. I use her brand of skin cleanser (skin elixir) and a cheap moisturiser (cetaphil) a lot of make up artists and dermatologists I believe recommend cetaphil – sold at chemists and cheap. The less chemicals the better. I used to go for the stronger products including tea tree and eventually realised they were making the problem worse. If your skin and hair are oily it sounds like an over-production and a dr might be able to suggest something. Also depending on your diet – some foods are very rich and oily ie curries and this could impact. I try to look at the bright side and even though you say you are too old for breakouts, having breakouts probably makes you look younger. My breakouts dropped right back once I hit my 30s so hopefully this is the case for you!

  • Have you tried Arbonne skincare products? I have just come across this post and noticed the question was asked in April, if you are still having problems please contact me. Either via email otuohey.arbonne@gmail.com or via facebook [search Olivia Tuohey – Arbonne Independent Consultant]. Olivia x.

  • MooGoo all natural skincare range is excellent – can be purchased at most health food stores

  • pro active is good and works for all skin types

  • I found Sukin hair products were great for controlling the oil on my scalp. Relatively inexpensive, Australian and Vegan! Never tried their facial range though.

  • I’ve tried so many different skincare products, because I have a variety of skin problems. I’ve tried cheap, expensive, organic, you name it, I’ve tried it. The only thing that has helped my skin is an Australian brand called “Rubifresh”. Go to

    http://rubifresh.com.au/

and check out their range. Tristan (the owner) is lovely, and very helpful with samples and advice. Hopefully their products will work for you. Good luck!

  • I think a visit to the dr might be in order :) I know its such a pain!

  • I think a dermatologist might be able to help

  • I found switching to all natural products helped improve my skin immensely. Some good ones are Sukin and Moogoo. Make sure you use all aspects natural meaning shampoo/conditioner, clensers, toners, moisturisers and also limit your use of make up stick to mineral based ones rather than oil.

  • I had bad skin when I was a teenager and tried everything then the doctor decided to put me on antibiotics for 6 month (low dose) with a topical ointment called differen used at night. It clears my skin within a month and I never had a problem since. Also if you are using a granular exfoliant, stop using it because the more you massage and stimulate your skin the more you stimulate the sebaceous glands to keep producing oil.

  • i would suggest seeing a dermatologist as everyone’s skin is different. if its any consolation oily skin ages less then dry skin so the silver lining is you will look youthful for longer.

  • I was the same….tried EVERYTHING!
Best thing ever was going Paleo! Check it out….you don’t need to buy expensive toxic products and take drugs that have long term side effects!

  • I’m the same, so just know you are not alone. The only thing that worked for me was “the pill”. Although it was great when I was younger, now as a new mum and someone who wants more kids soon I just have to live through the breakouts! Good luck!

  • I actually have a similar problem and the only product that works for me is Benzac AC.

  • I would go and see your doctor and ask what they could give you prescribed as it seems over the counter stuff isn’t working.
    Good luck

  • I wish l could off you some help but all l can offer you is your not alone. I thing is l am 53 and still get breakouts. I often joke l am going to be the only 90 year old l know that has breakouts if l live that long. I have tried may things and nothing has worked. I just figure it’s something l have to live with. Are you maybe over cleansing? Sometimes that can cause breakouts too.

  • Have you tried antibiotics? I also use cetaphil cleanser & moisturiser which suits my skin better and was recommended to me for break out skin.

  • I don’t have your problems but I feel for you. I have a friend who is younger and she was having breakouts and she was put on antibiotics and a long course and it has since cleared up all her skin.

  • I feel your frustration, I’ve got the same issues, worse with my current pregnancy and over the years the only thing that cleared my skin was a special contraceptive pill but it’s not something I want to go back on because the pill doesn’t sit well with my digestive system. It’s an option though. I did cut out wheat a while back and my skin did improve so maybe it’s diet related?
