Hello!

I am considering buying a Soda Stream but wanted to see if those who have one have found them to be worth it. Does it work out cheaper or more expensive to make drinks? I’ve noticed they have some rather interesting flavours and diet ones also. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. :)

  • I would say yes only if your family drinks fizzy drinks, otherwise I’d recommend mini ice-maker benefits of drinking more water.

  • I don’t have one but think it would depend how much softdrink/sparkling water you drink and what brand – ie you can get a 1.25l of softdrink for 70cents for a no name brand or several dollars for coke.

  • Honestly ours was used for a bit, and now it pretty much just sits in the cupboard.

  • It definitely works out cheaper than buying soft drink.
    Great for making soda water.
But honestly, all kids need is water so I personally wouldn’t spend the money on one. Those syrup mixes are full of nasties.

  • Yes, most definitely worth it, so much cheaper than buying fizz off the supermarket shelf. So Nancy flavours too. Go for it, I recommend it

  • My sister got one purely to make carbonated water. She was spending a fortune on a regular basis buying carbonated water and this saves her a packet. The fact that she can then make flavoured soft drinks is a bonus!

  • great question and some mixed answers might not get one after reading these

  • Hi I’m not a big soft drink fan but I have tried soda stream and to me they tasted so awful we threw them away. Do you have a friend who uses it to try the flavours first? Honestly it tasted of artificial flavours and sweeteners neither of us could drink any of them.

  • Thanks for posting this question and to those who answered. Have been wondering about them myself!

  • I love the soda stream to make mineral water! My family enjoys the mineral water mixed with juice or cordial which is somewhat healthier than softdrink!

  • I have heard a few people say getting the gas for them was a problem. I think a cousin of mine used juice instead of cordial. I don’t know if the novelty wore off or it was too hard to get the gas for it.

  • I personally love mine, I get the sugar free syrups

  • My partner’s Dad has one and loves it!

  • Fabulous question! After reading the answers I would like to invest in one and try it!

  • I’ve never bought one as I’m concerned about the amount of sugar in my kid’s diets. Also I’d check what type of sweetener they use in the diet options as artificial sweeteners are not good for you either.

  • We just bought a fridge which has a soda stream gas fitted so that we can have sparkling water all the time.
I found the flavours are very sugary and only used the soda stream for water.

  • We’ve got one and it is great for fizzing. But I don’t bother with their flavours – it requires extra bottles and different people want different intensities of flavour. I don’t like the new ‘caps’ idea – we’re a disposable society as it is and this just adds to it! We just use cordial or pureed berries. Our favourite is the Fruities brand cordial – 50% fruit and no nasties added.

  • I’ve heard a lot of debate about this myself. I have found ours comes in about equal as buying it already bottled. We only make soda water and then if flavour needed add a little lime cordial or juice or fresh lemon. The one thing I think is a HUGE positive is that is more friendly for the environment. By having the soda stream you’re not throwing out plastic bottles constantly. I would recommend getting two or three bottles and leave in the fridge ready to make “bubble water”

  • I had one many years ago and loved it.
I would happily get one again as they are great for parties.

  • I think it is cheaper in the long run but I also think it would make me drink more fizzy drinks if I had one.
