Hello!

I am going on a cruise with a few friends (girls holiday) and was wanting tips from others who have been on cruises. Did you get really dressed up for the Captain’s dinner? Also how did you stay in contact with family back home.

  • When we went on our first cruise we dressed up for Dinner each night and on theme nights we participated i them too. Every night you get a news letter delivered to your room so you can check out what is on and choose the things you would like to do. On our cruise we stopped in at one place where we were able to pick up stuff for our fancy dress nights. I also enjoyed doing the crafts on board we did flower making and knitting classes where the squares we made were sewn together by one of the crew then him and his partner took the finished to children’s homes and or hospitals overseas well done to the crew thoroughly enjoyed the whole trip both times. Never a dull moment.

  • You’ve probably had your cruise by now and I hope you enjoyed it. I’ve just returned from a cruise and loved it. The best part was the food and entertainment. As far as what to wear, smart casual is always best.

  • getting dressed up is optional however it is nice to dress up once and have a photo taken. I enjoy feeling and looking special and having table service. Other tips would be to look at the daily news each night and decide which things you might like to do such as dance classes, crafts if you like to do that or watch shows and fit them in around meals etc. I laso pack a few fun tiems for the dress up nights like a hawaian outfit, cowboy shirt etc as they are fun.

  • Have never been in contact with family, friends back home while on cruises. I hate getting dressed up for dinner, did it a few times, after shore excursions the last thing I want to do is get all dolled up for dinner, prefer a shower, casual dress and go to the family buffet for dinner. Don’t take too many clothes, I washed on cruises, don’t rush to the gift shop on day one, they sell discounted gift items/souvenirs as the cruise gets closer to the end. The ship photographs taken by their photographers are not cheap, save some money and take your own, a lot of people get sucked into paying their high prices. Stay safe and have fun.

  • As I went with a group of friends and family I didn’t worry about not being in contact with home (although understand that you would want to). We dressed up twice I think but I took sundresses that I could dress up with some jewelry. Most importantly relax and enjoy…

  • Thank you for the tips, getting excited and nervous about what I need to do/ take.

  • book early for the trips to avoid disappointment. And you can use your email / Facebook for keeping up with family and friends at home.

  • I have been on three cruises before. If you have a cabin with no window set your alarm as it will be constantly dark and you will sleep in for sure. You can eat A LOT on a cruise if you get carried away. They constantly serve food 24 hours a day so be careful. There are heaps of healthy options though, it’s just about portion control. The ship will have wifi for you to email/Facebook etc. Depending on how long your cruise is there will be a couple of days at sea which can be boring if you don’t want to join in the games/activities. I relaxed, read some books etc. Try and do some on shore activities when you dock. Enjoy!
