  • You should start early, but watch out for their ears, both my children ended up with frequent ear inflections.

  • I think most lessons start for them at 6 months old, but if you have your own pool or access to one they can start earlier

  • We started at 5 months, although I know of a few swim schools which allow 3 month old babies to swim

  • If your baby tends to hate having a wet face and head, you could gradually lessen the anxiety by tipping water over his/her head with a dipper while baby is sitting up. That is one of the things they do in baby classes. Some babies also don’t like having their head low in the water and getting it in their ears. They teach them the movements with their back in the water. If baby feels the cold too much you can get rashie type material all -in- ones that you put on over the top of bathers. I know one that goes blue in the pool water even though it is warm and cries part of the lesson otherwsie. At least you or another responsible adult is holding baby in the water. As far as I know you have to go in the pool with them until they are 3 y.o.

  • I think 4-5 months is the recommended start age, when swimming schools accept them for lessons. 7 months is plenty old enough

  • now is a good time. just getting them used to the water and stuff first.

  • When ever your bub is ready, I have been told the sooner the better, I am going to follow that advice.
