Hello!

I am in two minds as to whether I should have another child. I would like to have a 3rd but I also want to return to work. I am studying (finish 2016). My 2 kids (daughter 7, son 4) will be in full time school next year. I am worried that having another one will set be back with study and work, that financially we may not be able to afford it. It means my kids would need to share a room and I’m not sure if this will be a good idea. There are so many things to consider and I don’t know where to start. I was thinking I should leave it for a year as I am a bridesmaid in January for sisters wedding. My hubby is happy to go with whatever I decide. Any advice from mums and dads that have been through this would really help.

  • It will be a bit of a set back with study and work, but that’ll be true no matter when you have another baby. I chose to have my third sooner rather than later, on the basis that it was easier to re-start work after that than starting, stopping, starting again.

  • Hi. I have a 4 year old and 9 year old son. I would love to have another child to try for my little princess but unfortunately we can’t afford it. Maybe work out what your bills are yearly and break them up into fortingihtly payments and deduct your families current earnings. Dont forget to add emergency money/savings, electricity, rates, mortgage/rent, groceries, fuel, frequent tolls etc. Once this is done then add on the cost it would be for having a 3rd child. eg, nappies, formula, panadol/nurofen, extra clothes, child care costs. This should give you a rough idea if you will be living beyond your means. Good luck :-)
