Hello!

HELP! I have a wonderful bubbly 7 1/2 month old who up until this time has had a great night time sleeping routine and habit. He usually went down at 7 on his own and maybe woke up once for a bottle and then was awake by 5 ish and played in his cot until I’d come in and get him. We have recently been away on a holiday to Singapore where we both got sick, we have been back for a week and have and I haven’t slept since. I understand holidays screw things up and getting sick doesn’t help but I thought a week would have allowed him to get back to normal. He now screams when I put him in his cot, wakes up constantly crying and wimpering and last night it was every hour that he woke up and cried. And he was never really a crier before this either. He has decided 4.30 is the new wake up time! I’m a walking zombie at the moment and any advice would be appreciated. Do they go through sleep changes at this age?

  • I would also suggest a trip to the GP to rule out any medical issues.

  • if you can cope, put him in your bed, or in your room – in his cot… I know, some mums will knock this idea, but they are so young and fragile, and just do what your gut says… I don’t know too many kids or adults that sleep in their parents beds do you?

  • Sounds like an ear infection. I would do a trip to drs!

  • i think taking him to the doctor would be good

  • I would take him to the doctors to get his ears checked out for sure.
Good luck hope you get an answer and some sleep soon.

  • Maybe he is teething or it could be some type of ear infection. Take him to the doctors just in case.

  • I would be getting him checked for an ear infection after the flight you just took. Kids can often develop ear issues during flights.

  • My bub was the same after going on holidays. We put it down to sleeping in the same room/bed as us while on holidays and getting used to having you so close by. It took him about 2 weeks to get back into routine, during this time we’d just go into his room whenever he cried and reassured him without picking him up so he didn’t think he’d get picked up everything’s he cried.

  • Went to the doc and no ear infections or anything else. He’s on solids yes usually fruit for breakfast and veges for dinner. Still waking every hour as if something has woken him and getting really upset. Last night was bliss as he slept 4 hours straight (he used to sleep right thru:-(. Possibly teeth but hasn’t shown any significant signs of pain in the mouth. Flushed him out with laxatives today as recommended by the doc as he might be a bit backed up. Hoping it’s just a stage and we can get back to some sleep soon. Thanks for all your comments. :-)

  • I hope you find your answers soon

  • He may still be getting over what ever he had, also could be teething, sadly time is mostly the only thing.

  • I agree with the post below, it may be an ear infection from flying. Has he been running a temp? Also could it be teething? Every baby is different but I know with my little girl, if she is whimpering it usually means she has discomfort somewhere. Hope you get to the bottom of it fast and back to getting some good sleep

  • I would take him to the dr and get him checked. he could have a problem with his ears from the flight which has upset him

  • Poor you! Is he on solids – maybe he’s hungry? Or could he be cold?
