Hello!

Tips on how to give a baby medicine? – I’ve just after some advice – my 15month old girl has a throat infection. We got her antibiotics last night and was told to give her paracetamol. She has been crying non stop and won’t keep the medicine in her mouth, she just spits it out. Does anyone have any ideas how to get the medicine into her. She also has a fever. Is she to young for pain stop to give her a bit of a rest? Thanks in advance.

  • I used to use a measuring pipette and squirt it down the back of their throat. It’s sometimes not pleasant, but they swallow it

  • See if you can add it to food like yoghurt or wheetbix or a fruitmash. My youngest was bad at taking paracetamol and I bought the paracetamol suppositories.

  • I would suggest a pippet or a syringe, minus the needle, and just quickly squirt it down her throat. If it hits the back of her throat, she can’t spit it back out

  • A pipette is the best thing I found. Put it in the mouth as far back as possible and squirt. It’s usually too far back to be spat out, they have no choice but to swallow

  • put it in a bottle

  • Little bits at a time putti in a bottle after every bit.m

  • The medicine should be in liquid form. It can be put with yoghurt to hide the taste. Bribes also may work.

  • Was going to say the same thing try with some honey on a spoon.

  • Try it with some honey or jam and see how she goes.

  • you can get panadol suppositories but they can be more traumatic than medicine …good luck i dont envy you

  • did you find a way?

  • could you put it in orange juice

  • Tickle her under the chin when you give it to her so that her reflex action means that she will swallow it, This is how you give animals medicine. Otherwise add a little water to it. Even diluted she will get some benefit from it.

  • did you find a way to work?

  • how did you go? :)

  • Have you had any luck with it?

  • We usually get success with a spoon as she thinks it is food

  • What did you end up doing?

  • in a syringe with something to drink straight afterwards

  • When I have to give my little ones medication I usually conceal it in their favourite drink.
