On my daughter’s second birthday her current dummy was getting quite old so I just told her it was time to throw it away. She accepted it and never asked for another one.

Depends on the age. My boy had them up until he was 3. He use to bite them and I just said to him I was not buying anymore. Once he bit the last one I made him put it in the bin. I have had a friend who got her son to give it to the easter bunny. My sister just went cold turkey at 1.5years. She said you have to be mentally ready as they have to learn how to self settle without the dummy and you have to be strong enough to not grab another out of the cupboard. Goodluck

Both of my boys had dummies till between 12-18 months and then I would start taking it off them for a few hours then turned to leaving it in their cots when they got up so theyonlyhad it at sleep time and then they didn’t want it too much like that. I think my girl is going to be harder though.

yeah i think that you just have to get rid of it or get your child to say goodbye and throw it out or give it to a teddy who needs it more etc.

My first never took to the dummy so didn’t have an issue but with my second/third twins they had dummies and we “flushed them down the loo” They weren’t very happy about the toilet though as it ate their dummies but it worked a treat, I just chucked they in the bin and we didn’t have an issue after that.

Both of our boys used to have dummies. The eldest one was harder to detach. He was around 3 when we told him big boys don’t use dummies. We told him that all big boys get to a day when they’re not classed as babies anymore and this was his day. We watched as he proudly threw half of his dummies in the bin. We told him for now that he could still have it at night but not during the day. He didn’t have a day time dummy from that day forward and even his night time one started to dim down the need for it. He was completely off the dummy within about 4 weeks. My 2nd son teethed from 4 weeks old so he always had bonjella on his but as soon as the bonjella was gone he would spit it out. He had his whole set of teeth just after his first birthday and when he realised he wasn’t getting anymore bonjella, he took himself off it. Good luck girls

My daughter never wanted a dummy. My son (10 months) loves his. I’m out of my depth with this one as well. Would definitely be interested to know any tips as well.
