Hello!

I was wondering if you could ask every one on tips on transitioning from bassinet in our room to cot in bubs room? My baby’s never woken up really upset before but when I put her in her cot for the first time in the dark she woke up and got scared.

  • Let her acclimitize to it in the day first.

  • How old is she? I’d start with the daytime naps in the cot. Use the same comforter and the same sheets if possible. Make sure she is snug and warm enough, being in a bigger bed might be a bit cooler.
    Good luck.

  • A bit of advice I heard and am taking on board to try help the transition is to use both bassinette and cot from day one. Cot in babys room during the day to get him / her used to it and bassinette in our room of a night. That way it’s not as big a change

  • If it’s the dark she doesn’t like, get a small night light. I had one fir my kids, still use it when we have visitors. Try making up only half the cot so the size doesn’t overwhelm her. She’ll get there, don’t worry too much

  • Let her do day sleeps in the cot first and then try for some night sleeps

  • I started with day time naps, that way they could see enough light in the room to get familiar with their surroundings, and then i just used the sleep settling routines for night. I started at 5 weeks, so i think this helped at the time also.
    Good luck

  • how did it all go?

  • We put a lot of cheery glow in the dark stickers in our daughters room (stars and smiling moons) and she was really happy to go into her cot. She was a big (tall) bub and needed the extra room as she outgrew her bassinette quite quickly!

  • Hope all is going well since moving to cot.

  • I think she just getting used to it, keep the routine going and she’ll be alright in no time :)

  • How did you go with bassinet to cot?

  • How did the transition go?

  • How are you managing now? Managed the transition?

  • We never used bassinets, so I have no advice on this one.

  • I am the same with Lynzstevo I never used a bassinet either. My babies were in a cot right from the beginning and I hope you find the answer your looking for

  • I can’t offer much advice as my babies went straight in a cot and never used a bassinet, but I’d say make their room and cot as comfortable and inviting as possible. A mobile is a good thing to have.

  • Maybe try a night light?

  • My son woke up crying and it turned out that he was missing his musical mobile I put a new one in his cot (the bassinet one was attached so I couldn’t swap it) and once he got use to it he was fine :). Keep the cot similar to the set up of the bassinet if possible and I am sure she will settle soon enough for you.

  • Depending on your child’s age, a night light they can turn on and off could work or a plush toy to keep them company.

  • I didn’t have a choice, as bubs started rolling over at 4 months so we had to put him in the cot then. We are lucky not to need a night light as his window faces in the direction of a street light so he gets plenty of lights through the side of the curtains. We managed to settle him pretty well by making sure he was well tucked in
