Hello!

I’m about to go on a trip overseas with my 4 young children (6,5,3,1) I just wondered if anyone has great tips for the adventure we are going on… how to keep the children happy and entertained and if people actually survived traveling with multiplied children. Also some advice on how to prevent/treat sore ears from flying. Thank you so much.

  • First tip is for the flying. Ensure children are sucking on something fir take off and landing. Second tip, see if family members could accompany you to share the load of child minding. My sister in law usually went away with her dsughter and family to help kind the kids

  • there are some good comments here

  • Hope the trip went well

  • Hi! Have you been on your trip yet? I use food to entertain my kids (though I’ve really only taken them on shorter domestic flights), and sometimes as a treat get a kids meal at the airport (the toy keeps them amused for longer than I’d expect). Otherwise DVD players, colouring in, playing cards, hot wheels cars, or just looking out the window at the clouds. A cup of ice from the flight attendant has worked to entertain, when the boys were younger. Good luck – and happy holidays!

  • wow this sounds like a great trip, i hope all goes well :)

  • The best treatment for sore ears is to be sucking on a lolly or lollypop during take off and landing. You could also ask the airline or check their site for advice and also if they have in-flight entertainment systems etc.

  • Have you been on your trip yet? Hope all went well.

  • Where about are you going overseas?

  • Awesome news I wish we could go on a holiday…. especially overseas

  • RELAX!!! dont let things get you stressed. suck sweets if old enough or lolly pop or drink during take off and landing to help ears.

  • some colouring in and pencils, word searches, tachnology like ds and ipad if you own them, books

  • Take all stuff which you really for travel but not too much also some entertaining for kids such as iPad, Nitendo 3DS and some books.

  • Wow… SUpermum…pack as light as possible!

  • Take an experienced nanny with you! Are you crazy? lots of little snacks and chewing gum. Little surprise presents they get on the plane to play with and colour, ipad and ds etc. Write phone number on arms of all kids. And a bottle of vodka for arrival. (the vodka is for you when you arrive at your destination)

  • give them food and drinks while flying to keep their jaws working and that should help with the ear popping

  • Phenergan on the flight…..and sucky boiled sweets for take off and landing…I’ve seen so many little ones crying as the plane was descending and the parents couldn’t understand why! And a bottle to suck if too young.

  • Depending on how long your flight is it might pay to book a seat for the 1 year old otherwise you are going to have to hold them in your lap and thats very difficult when you have to rend to one of the other children and its a nightmare when meals arrive. You know how well behaved your children are and as long as they are well behaved you shouldnt really have nay issues. Make sure the younger children are seated on either side of you.
Depending on what airline you are flying they usually look after the kids with colouring books and such but you can also take sticker books and things like that. The kids can also watch movies or tv shows on the plane.
I travelled with my kids and never had a problem…the first time was when my eldest as 10mths old and she was fine with take off and landing as I breast fed her as the sucking helped her ears. Older children can suck on boiled lollies.

  • Small back packs for each child with toys they love but went missing several weeks ago from home by you for the trip. I have five kids many trips over seas I buy earplanes for two of my kiddies ears they are like ear plugs that help open the ear canal allowing them to equalise easier. But anything they suck and swallow as the swallow helps the ears. Enjoy flight attendance are amazing and extremely helpful 95% of the time

  • It’s not about to treat the sore ears. But to prevent it. Give kids lollies before and during take off and landing. And for kids under 2 breastfeed/bottle feed him/her.

  • Good luck, we haven’t braved this yet but 1 tip I’ve been told with toddlers is to find a spot where you can let them run around, jump, dance, wiggle and if possible make noise before you get on the plane, so then they hopefully will be alright with more quieter activities on the plane. Maybe check with the airline- most overseas planes these days have individual screens to watch with a wide selection of shows, movies and games. Definately take something to suck/ chew on take off and landing and snacks incase fussies don’t like what the plane offers.
