  • I’d say as soon as they’re confident with getting up and down from it so that they dont hurt themselves doing so. You can buy bed rails that attach to any bed so that they dont roll off during the night

  • We have only done it when we needed to both were 3 and coped very well with it

  • when they start climbing over the rails

  • No tips but I am going to follow for tiips as I am about to do the same

  • we just took the sides off our toddlers cot. well one side first and then lowered the other side then take that off then get a bed.

  • I think when you are ready, as they can then get out and walk to your room. Are you ready to get up and put them back to bed :-)

  • Leave them in the cot until they climb out or you need it for the next one. Go straight to the single sized bed (NOT BUNKS) and use a pool noodle under the sheet to stop them falling out. The child should be at least one.

  • i dont think there is a set age. Every child is different so whenever you feel that you are ready and that your child is ready then go for it.

  • I transfered my girls at 12-15 months. My youngest i held off till about 20 months because she was smaller being a premmie

  • We are aiming to change our little one into a toddle bed around 2 1/2. As atm he just turned two and still doesnt climb out and shows no interest into climbing out

  • when they start to climb for sure

  • I find around 3 is a good age, they seem to enjoy it

  • when your child is ready, or when your child can climb out of the rail…too risky i think

  • I moved my son from a cot to a bed when he was starting to climb out of his cot!!! ~24mo

  • when they start being able to lift their leg to the top rail. about 20-24m

  • ok after lots of reading of wonderful advice i have received here i decided to try my daughter in her sisters bed while she was at a sleep over and it was a HUGE success now she is asking to sleep in it every night so i have ordered her bed and she will sleep in her big bed from this week thanks everyone :)

  • I knew my eldest was ready for a bed after he would get out of his cot and run down the hallway after his afternoon nap!
He was about 2 when we did the changeover.
We did buy a bed guard as well when he went into his ‘big bed’

  • My nearly 2 year old is still in his cot. Has absolute no interest in climbing out (yet). Me and hubby have said, as soon as he climbs out, he will go into his toddler bed for a couple of months until we can get his single bed mattress.
We took my nearly 4 year old out of his cot at about 18months cause he climbed out and hurt himself. I think it really depends on the child and how adventurous they are.

  • Each child will be different, if they are up and down all night may be better left a little longer in cot. If expecting arrival of new bub , again don’t make shift too soon as toddler may feel like they are being hurried out of the cot. Talk about the move and you will gage how they feel, some may not be ready so just wait, we never see a teenager still in their cot. Just remember it doesn’t matter what age any one else’s child is in a bed they all catch up at some stage.

  • it totally depends on the child and if they are climbing out of their cot then there is a danger they could hurt themselves so that would be a great time to start.
