I would look at self contained cabins. They’re usually cheap, have all you need and are often close to other activities, some even have on site activities. Perfect for families

Research the area you are visiting to see where the amenities are, like shops and parks, and try get accommodation close by so you can walk everywhere if needed. I’ve done something similar with my kids before and we booked one bedroom and took an inflatable mattress as well in case three in the bed was too much.

Look for hotels that advertise ‘family friendly’ on their sites. Wotif has a good search function for that. Also look at the surrounding ‘entertainment’ or tourist attractions. Eg if it’s near a club district it’s safe to say it’s not very kid friendly, if it’s near a sports stadium it might be

Just look at the place and try to stay away from places that are too fancy or have pictures that include lots of breakable things in the room. Also if you can be near a park or somewhere to get the kids out and about it will make things easier for you.
