Hello!

I’m taking my husband on a surprise date soon. It’s our first date since our 11 month old was born. We will ‘have dinner with friends’ (that’s what I told him) and leave bub with them instead.
Any ideas of some fun things to do apart from dinner? We are Canberra based. Thanks for your thoughts!!

  • Is there an observatory? Looking at the stars would be nice.

  • What does your hubby like doing? Something he maybe hasn’t done for a long time? They’re usually a goid place to start

  • Hot springs!!

  • A lovely picnic with good food and wine in the sunshine by the beach, lake or river.

  • A movie? Maybe a theatre production. Walk on the beach. Drinks at a club that has a band. A game arcade. Any concerts happening? All depends on what you both like and can afford

  • Depends on your husbands interests. Find something you know he enjoys doing, maybe fishing or bowling, & a meal.
Enjoy your adult time together & no matter what you do I’m sure hubby is going to love his surprise date :)

  • Maybe a night at the theatre before or after dinner. See if there’s a show on somewhere. Drinks and a band

  • Take him to see a movie a pre drink at a bar and then dinner somewhere “adult” (so not a family restaurant )

  • Drive ins? Late dinner at a candle lit restaurant

  • We went to the movies. And coffee.

  • I would book a night in a hotel or something he likes to do!

  • whatever you do, enjoy your time! i spend my time worrying about the kids even though i know they are fine lol

  • HOw about snuggling at a movie? Or walking around the city.

  • A cosy romantic dinner somewhere secluded, maybe even at home with candlelight only! That way you will have the time together with no distractions by anyone.

  • Maybe take him to the theatre or to the movies gold class, or if you are huge sports fans take him to see his alltime favourite team play. What better way to treat your man than with food, sport and a beer with the person he loves.

  • Maybe book a mystery date! :)

  • There’s that cafe in Canberra that’s made national news for its sundaes/milkshakes and desserts. Personally I would like a fine dining restaurant with wine and seafood and no time limits. Our dining experiences are limited to rsls and child friendly venues that serve as close to 5pm as humanely possible. Adult time would be nice – enjoy!

  • It does depend on your interests:

Maybe a concert or a trip to the theatre – you will then be able to talk about your date for days. Concerts are good because you can let your hair down, sing and dance.

Maybe a classy or fun venue that offers mocktails and canapes and has good music.

Maybe ice skating or a similar fun activity.

My favourite is a lucky dip jar-fill a jar with rolled up ideas for date night and get your partner to choose. It will be a surprise for both of you! We have picnics, movies and…more.

    Good Luck! :)

  • can you book a night in a hotel or a little country cottage to just be the both of you, or a romantic boat trip with a meal? sorry in a different state so no ideas of whats close by. are there any concerts or comedy shows nearby etc???

  • GOLD CLASS Cinemas are a good option. Order your food with your ticket. Can I suggest you buy a special Bottle of Wine make your own label ” First Date Night “. You may not be allowed to BYO so have them sick in on your favourite bottle. He will love this!
    Have a great night!
