We wash and keep materials for recycling and use them for construction. A roll of masking tape, and your imagination and my kids are set

Egg cartons make fun crocodiles, toilet rolls can be made into people, binoculars and milk bottle lids can be dials on a box for a robot costume.

Loose parts play is a great way to encourage creativity. Start a collection of natural/recycled materials that can be use to create mini worlds. Some suggested materials are stones, shells. Small wood rounds, milk bottle lids, a piece of fake grass etc. You can keep adding to your collection and the possibilities are endless,

One of my kids favourite things to make are bugs out of egg cartons. They like to cut them up either 3 or 4 long to make catepillars or single egg cup sections to make other smaller bugs. Add some paint, googly eyes and pipe cleaners for the legs and the creepy possibilities are endless

My 3 and 5yo loves just build big construction and rock them down…

Just store it all in a box and let your kids go for it. Left to their own devices, they can be very creative

Letterbox and post pretend letters
Grow watercress in egg carton or any seeds
Snowmen or christmas angels with cardboard tubes
Dolly beds with bigger boxes or car garages
Musical shakers with bottles.
Check out your local library if one close by and take a look at the craft activity books in the kids section which often have some ideas also.

I just say something like “make a space ship” and let the kids go with the recycling. A general idea keeps them busy for ages.

Our latest fun activity is painting pebbles with bright acrylic paints & planting them around the neighbourhood for others to enjoy also.

Just put it all out in front of your child and let them go for it. Add paint, sticky tape, glue, kids scissors and let them do the creating

See what she wants to do. See what their creativity involves. I always during craft time, help with sticky tape, and sometime general direction. but I love seeing what they make it. Both my kids differ creatively, but I love seeing how their minds work and what they come up with!

My son loves making cars and trucks out of boxes.

With Christmas coming toilet roles are great to use for making bon bons. Also you can make some cute camel decorations using 2 egg carton sections as the humps, cutting out a cardboard head and using paddle pop sticks for legs (you will need a hot glue gun). For a tail, a piece of string or wool. Then you can paint them. Also egg cartons are great for raising seedlings from seeds. We also collect boxes for “box days” – the kids can get creative and see whatever they can make with boxes, like a car, robot, train, all sorts of things!

The possibilities are endless. What fun! Maybe ask your child for ideas of what they would like to make. Another way to source ideas is to read a book and then make something from the book. It may be a castle, an elephant, a car whichever things that are sparked in your child’s imagination. Enjoy playing.

If you give your toddler toddler milk then you can make some drums for a musical instrument.
Milk bottles you can make those sensory jars which you fill with oil, glitter, rice etc.
Nappy boxes you can make different scenes, for example like a underwater scene – you can get your toddler to paint it blue inside and then cut out fish shapes and glue them onto string that can hang from the top. Find some shells and stick them down.
