Hello!

Here is a fun question for you guys! What are some funny or strange superstitions that you have heard? I have heard that if you give a purse or bag to someone, you have to include money with it as good luck.

  • My mother used to have lots and I am sure a lot of them are based on fear as well. Some include don’t sit on someone elses seat as you may catch germs , don’t go out in the dark when pregnant , don’t sleep with your hair wet as you may catch a cold . ( I do beleive in this one ? )

  • Definitely been told to include money in a purse but not a back. Definitely know about not giving a knife as present as it will sever the friendship. The black cat, the walking under ladder and breaking mirrors causing bad luck are all common too. The running a gold band on skin disorders i know about too. I’ve also been told to leave a drink of alcohol on graves of loved ones at special occasions.
Actually the gold band works. I once woke up with a swollen eyelid, mum rubbed her wedding band (18kt gold) on it and about an hour later my eyelid was back to normal.

  • When l have given wallets l have always put money in it as a surpise, hope it bought them luck!

  • I have heard about giving a coin in a gifted purse and always do that. Never walk under a ladder. Or break a mirror, get 7 years bad luck.
Never have an umbrella open in the house.

  • Never give knives as a gift as it will sever the friendship.

  • Back in the 60’s when you bought a new handbag they had a penny in a plastic sheath stitched in most of them! I used to put a 1 cent coin in purses or handbags if they were gifts until they were scrapped too!

  • Really?? That’s so funny! :D

  • What about the one if you put a pair of brand new shoes on a table or bench, the person who touches them next is going to have an argument with you!

  • I have heard that rubbing a gold ring on a skin disorder will remove that disorder.

  • If you put your handbag on the ground apparently it means financial loss in your life….
    A Serbian superstition.

  • yes I have heard some strange ones as well, I heard one about you should’nt cross the path of black cats it causes bad luck, and do not break a mirror it causes 7 years of bad luck…

  • LOL! Kasey! I will stay away from that statue! ;)

  • My mum does the coin thing when she gifts them to people……one I was told if you rub the tummy of this statue at Ripley’s Believe It or Not on the Gold Coast you’ll fall pregnant so I did a few months later I was.

  • Eh! Eh! Surely it is.
“Black cats bring bad luck.” I don’t believe so. But I remember going to Spain by bus. The bus driver was very superstitious. A black cat crossed our road. He didn’t want to go on. Bad luck. He turned the bus, and took another road!!! Yes! I was astonished!!!! :D

  • I have heard this one and been on the receiving end of this one – which is rather nice! :)
