Hello!

What do you do when you cannot sleep? Do you get up, stay in bed, do you do anything in particular? Would love to hear some ideas/strategies etc on this topic!

  • If I can’t sleep I get up and have a drink, maybe a quick snack and try to read a book laying down, then when I start getting drowsy can just close the book and sleep – lights usually stay on all night.


  • Depends on what the reason is that I can’t sleep. When it is a worry or something that is strongly on my mind, it might help to first talk about it or write it down before I can put my mind at rest.
    For example this week I found a massive amount of stuff my 12 yr old stole just before I wanted to go to bed. I couldn’t sleep and kept on thinking at the many more places in the house I should check. I went out of bed to first do this and turned the whole house up side down, I couldn’t sleep anyway. Sadly I found many more items my daughter stole.


  • I sometimes get up make a cup of tea and sit in the lounge room sometimes I put tv on play music until I’m tired.


  • This was me last night. I had so many things running through my head. I ended up taking a phenergan tablet to help he fall asleep, which even then took a long time.


  • I try to stay in bed but I first go and recheck kids and make sure their covered in the middle of the night then i mentally go trough my to do list for the next day. This alone is exhausting.


  • When I can’t sleep, I stay in bed and read.
    The more I read, the sleepier I get :)
    Might take 10 minutes or 3+ hours, but reading relaxes me to the point of drifting off


  • I go on Ebay, on here or facebook. I have major issues and 2am is usually the earliest I can get to sleep.


  • i try to sleep but sometimes i just need some music or movie playing in the background to help me sleep


  • I stay in bed but I have friends that get up and read or do ironing lol!


  • Avoid doing anything with an electronic screen – get up and read a book or magazine for half an hour.


  • i just use my ipad and stream movies/shows to watch and usually afterway through it i will doze off haha.


  • If I can’t sleep for whatever reason, I either read or get up make a cuppa and do some work. I usually find that I get tired after 1/2 hour or so and am able to doze off.


  • I was told not to do anything else in bed accept sleep and sex by a psychologist to help with sleep. I usually get up and read- nothing to do with a screen as that keeps the brain ticking too much.


  • I get up and have a cup of tea


  • I watch TV on the lounge with a blanket and pillow to make me comfy and after a while I just nod off.


  • I generally get up and write in my diary or make a list of things I need to do. I find that I only don’t sleep if I’m worried about something or thinking of things I need to do so if I can make sure I will not forget my mind switches off.


  • Depending on what time of the night it is i Study, Facebook, read, have a snack/cuppa, stay in bed and listen to everyone else.


  • I put my head phones in and walk ( or dance) around my house till I’m tired.


  • I get up. Have a cuppa. plan my day,Then go back to bed


  • A warm bath and hot chocolate milk sometimes helps! :)
