The nail will grow back itself. I’d try not to cover it, but if you need to perhaps just a bandaid for now.

My daughter did the same thing when she was about 2. The nail just regrew perfectly without any intervention from us.

Thank you ladies. It happened at daycare n they told us when we went to pick her up. She took the nail off herself when it was starting to bug her n i was freaking out. A tad calmer thanks to you

Ouch! Poor little darling. When it starts to grow back, sometimes it can be a bit jagged and get caught on things. I use a bandaid for this phase. Until it’s all grown back, nice and smooth. Wouldn’t want it to rip off again

If there is any inflammation you may need to see the Dr, but generally the nail will grow through normally in a few weeks.
