Hello!

I have very dry hands. I’ve tried a number of hand creams and am just wondering what other mums use. Can anyone recommend a particularly good one?

  • Nutrogena and DU’IT are brands that I prefer when it comes to hand creams.

  • During the day I use Neutrogena® Norwegian Formula Hand Cream.
During the night (especially in winter) I smear with Vaseline petroleum jelly and cover it with dermatological gloves

  • Aveeno

  • Clarins have a great (though expensive) hand cream. Lush also does lovely hand creams at a more reasonable price.

  • I am currently using the Avon Moisture Therapy handcream which I purchased for only $2 is wonderful for my dry hands. I have one in the car and one at home. It is quite intense , but absorbs into the skin without greasiness. There is also the Neutrogena Norwegian Concentrated formula handcream found at Priceline/Pharmacies which is very similar to the look and texture of the cream. The only thing I didn’t like was the tube is hard to squeeze especially when it starts getting empty . Also look for ingredients good for dryness such as shea butter, oils etc,..that would help too .

  • i have a lot of creams lol but the one that i think is best is the “garnier hand cream 7 day intensive” (strongest moisturisng level). Keeps moisturising and take a few washes to completley “Wash off” so really helps to protect your hands without constantly needing to re-apply after every hand wash. Absorbs really well and quickly and doesn’t affect your ability to grip things like other creams do. Don’t have to wait until before bedtime to apply this one.

  • we use all QV skincare products in our household and they are great. moisturise well and gentle on the skin.

  • Some of it could be caused by the hand soap you use. A lot of them contain caustic soda.
You need to use an organic one to ensure there is no unnecessary chemicals in it.
Avoid products with perfume in them. Many have chemicals in them to retain the perfume aroma. This is medical advice we were given. Some pharmacies stock organic and herbal soaps. A lot of hospitals, aged care facilities etc use QV products.

  • I really like Vaseline Intensive Moisturiser as an all over moisturiser. It absorbs quickly and is not greasy. It makes my hands and face feel so much better after I’ve applied it. It also comes in a huge bottle and is really well priced.

  • Yes, there’s some great suggestions here. Thanks so much ladies! :)

  • So many great suggestions in here. I will have to try the Neutrogena hand cream!

  • QV intense body moisturiser is great for extremely dry hands, but it is rather greasy, and one I would use more as a hand mask

  • the hemp hand cream from the body shop is good or rose hand cream from jurlique but try using a salt / sugar scrub on your hands first as this usually helps

  • The Crabtree and Evelyn hand creams are really lush, very moisturising and smell wonderful. True, they’re a bit more expensive but I think of it as a little treat for myself so I can justify it that way.

  • You are so very welcome Melanie! The blurb on the Nutrogena reads “used by fishermen” so it must be good to protect their hands! My tube is small and it only takes a small amount on my skin for good coverage. Mom57665 is right too – Dermaveen is good for skin too. I have a good selection of creams!

  • I love the dermaveen body and hand one makes my skin so soft : ) Definetly wortha try

  • Thanks Mum93821. Great suggestions. :)

  • I always use Vitamin E cream as it is so good on skin and hands and it is cheap and cheerful and good for the beauty budget. When my hands are quite dry after gardening or being exposed to the cold and wind I use Nutrogena and it is brilliant. It lasts a long time and is worth every penny. I use Aveeno too and it is wonderful. These are all good and work well.
