Hello!

My 3 daughters have never really been fond of the water in their eyes and therefore don’t like swimming that much or if they do they where a lifejackets. When is the best time to start/learn how to swim?

  • Australia is surrounded by water and can be a huge part of many peoples lives. I think it’s important to learn water safety and what to do if you get caught out. So many tourists get swept away because they do not understand how water works. You can learn to swim at any age, but the earlier you do should be easier.

  • maybe 4? my 4 yr old has been going since a baby, my toddler never been but he’s even more confident lol

  • Lots of places have school holiday programs – why not now?

  • now is a great time! perfect weather and occupy them. get them used to the water gradually. they will love it.

  • Yay the weather is getting warmer which is great for learning to swim

  • As young as possible to get them used to the water. A lot of places have learn to swim programmes fro babies and up. I would get them into a class asap

  • Yes definitely need to invest in some goggles, might start soon, would like them to learn before its too late

  • Anytime.
Contact your local swimming centre & enquire about swimming lessons. Explain that your children aren’t very fond of the water & they will be very helpful at assisting.
You may even find that your children may develop a passion for swimming!
Learning to swim is not only a wonderful skill to have but it is also great exercise.
You could even try turning it into a family event by joining yourself :)

  • anytime is the best time to learn to swim. Earlier the better but if due to finanical situation you couldnt then now is the best time.

To help with the water in their eyes invest in googles

Try find a swim school that doesnt use floaties as who falls in a pool or body of water with floaties on unless you have them on 24/7.

  • All my children started swimming lessons as babies. My 8, 6 year olds are now comfortable swimmers. My 4yo isn’t a great swimmer but can still manage a width of the pool on her own and my 2yo even knows enough now that if she fell in the water she can make it back to the edge. My earliest memory is of drowning when I fell in a pool at 3 so for me it was imperative that my kids learned to swim and be confident at it, at a young age.
