We tried farex with our daughter at 5 months she seemed ready for food. She didn’t like it but I tried puréed pumpkin and she loved it I gave it to her early in the afternoon before a bottle to see if she was keen for it. I thought if I didn’t it after a bottle she simp,y would be to full already.

The advice changes all the time, it’s so hard to keep up. I would start with a little bit of Farex stirred into the milk bub is drinking. Bub will only eat til full so you can’t over feed

Let baby take the lead, I’d probably stick to nothing before 4 months but each child is individual to a certain extent. Let baby sit with you for meals and gauge their level of interest.

The current advice from the Breastfeeding association is still 6 months but the paediatricians recommend 4 months. I split the difference and went with 5 months. The change to 4 months was prompted by the rise in allergies and (unless you have a family member with a severe anaphylactic food allergy in which case seek professional advice) you should try to introduce allergenic foods especially eggs prior to 6 months to reduce the likelihood of allergies. The current recommendation is also to introduce foods together not individually like they used to.

Things have changed but i think a lot of the advice from the past are resurfacing. I fed my babies rice porridge and fruit, veggies and a taste of whatever we were eating. They have no allergies rarely get sick and eat just about everything, Follow advice but don’t be to rigid about it. its a guideline as long as they are active, happy and healthy they are getting enough and will thrive

I always followed my blue book when my kids were babies and made regular visits to the childhood centre where the sisters were very helpful. What I remembered was starting light such as mushy rice porridge and then have milk afterwards ( so either breast or formula ) . The idea is they slowly get used to solids and drink less milk to get a balanced diet. Some foods included rice porridge and/or soft steam vegies, soft bread ( without the crust ), anything I can mash up etc..Talk to the childhood nurse if you can as they are really good with advice .
