Veg soup is the best thing in winter.. I don’t use a recipe – I just use what I have.

A pumpkin and bacon soup. Just fry some onion, garlic and celery. Then add some bacon (250 grams) and pumpkin pieces (a butternut pumpkin). Add 4 cups of water, let cook for half an hour and blend. It’s my favourite!

The other Winter meal I love is soup. I make up a big pot of soup with vegetables, split peas and lentils. This is a good way to use up vegetables that are just about to turn. Add any vegetables you like and season to taste.

Meat and vegetables in my slow cooker is a favourite feel good, tasty and all time comfort food Winter meal. I buy meat and vegetables on special from the markets and make herb and parsley dumplings to go in the slow cooker too. The house fills up with the most amazing and delicious aroma. Food cooked in a slow cooker is just so satisfying.
