Hello!

Should I throw a party that bubs won’t remember or do a cake smash photo shoot?

  • We kept it very simple, but definitely celebrated their big day

  • Have a party – but it’s mostly for the adults who’ve been part of their first year.

  • We had a family meal which included close relatives. It wasn’t really a party as such. We took a few photos. We had a cake but we didn’t smash it. We celebrated the 1st Anniversary of me giving birth to our 1st baby

  • We did both, but it doesn’t have to be expensive!! My mother’s group got together and hired a photographer to do a group cake smash with all the babies as they turned 1 in the same month. We got some great group and individual photos and it cost us $50 each. We did a Teddy Bear Picnic party and had about 50 people (we have a big family) – do afternoon tea so you don’t need as much food and a lot of family offered to help with the food. Put out some picnic blankets, baby toys, balloons and bunting and you have yourself a party!

  • It’s more what works for you. I didn’t want to do one but I know some parents love it so do what you want.

  • We had a party for our daughters first birthday and I went over the top! I know our daughter won’t remember it but for me it was more about us celebrating with our family and friends that we survived the first year of parenthood! Also to thank those that helped us along the way because it sure does take a village to raise a tribe!
