Hello!

I’m going through our stash and deciding what’s worth keeping for future bubbas vs what just took up space. Curious what surprised other mums!

  • I didn’t use the baby bath for as long as I expected. It was just as easy to use our regular bath after the first few weeks, and a lot less fuss. That surprised me. Otherwise I think we used everything regularly, but then again we didn’t buy very much fancy or gadgety stuff.

  • The one thing that surprised me about the baby stage was the large amount of clothes we were gifted for our babies. We found we just did not use all of them because some were great for going out but not for everyday practical wear. Babies and toddlers need clothes that are sturdy and practical. We did donate and give away excess clothes.

  • Teething rings, pram liner, sleeping bags for newborns, bottles and small containers for formula, large bag with compartments. Pram clips. My list could go on, I found so many things useful and necessary should you wish to have more children. Why buy them twice if you can keep them in a cupboard for when you need them next.

  • I bought a fancy breast pump with my first born and it barely got used. I found it uncomfortable and would barely get any milk when using it. I actually found it way easier to hand express. My son didn’t take a bottle anyway so it was definitely a waste of money for us.

  • We were pretty realistic and practical about what we would use with our babies. The baby stage went by so quickly and we were lucky enough to be given some hardly used items that we in turn passed down. We used everything and the only things we had surplus of was clothes that were given as gifts.

  • I was one of those silly mums who bought a towel dressing gown for under 12 months thinking they would wear it, hahah never. Other than that, the only things that didn’t get used were fancy outfits until 12 months. All that was needed were two way zippies and a few ergopouches.

  • I found a baby bath a waste of time
I used my kitchen sink heaps
Cleaned my kitchen washed down my sink.
Then filled my sink with bath water.
I place a clean towel on the drain side
Then I would use my soft towel that I had for Bub
So one towel doubled then a baby towel .
