I’d check with your doctor, because the advice on that changes regularly. I think if there is no family history, the current recommendation is 6 months.

My son just had his six months vaccinations and the doctor said that recent studies have found that it is better to introduce nut and egg earlier then holding back and introducing at one year old, which is what they use to recommend. They now recommend from six months. As my first daughter is allergic to diary and my six month old son already had excema, they recommended I come in and try him on a little peanut butter and a few weeks later a little egg and if anything happens, the doctor is there that can administer an epi pen.

If there is a history of allergies within your family then it’s best to consult a GP about how and when to introduce nut products. If there’s no history then you can start nut pastes from 9 months (my 11 month old loves peanut butter!). As for whole nuts, they present a choking hazard so I didn’t give them to my son until he was over 2. He’s almost 4 now and I still make sure that he has only small nuts, never whole.

We just went for our six months vaccinations with our son who is allergic to a lot of normally not “allergic type food” and she recommended we start ASAP.

I would talk to your childhood nurse first as nuts can cause a child to choke . Not sure about allergies as fortunate the whole family can eat anything and everything !

We tried our son on nuts and seeds early. With a nephew who is allergic to peanuts. We wanted to ensure our son did not experience the same. Now he enjoys nuts on a regular basis. They are good for him and we want to ensure he can eat everything.
