Talk with the nurse or even with the Gp if you’re really concerned. When needed they can write a referral.
Things you can do to help the speech development: read with your child, talk with your child about the ordinary things of the day, sing with your child, recite nursery rhymes using pictures, copy your childs attempts of saying words in the right way. For example your child say ‘nah’ and you respond with ‘yes, that’s a banana’. In the meantime pictures and some simple keyword signing, can help your toddler express him/herself.
When your child is speech delayed, a helpful book is “It takes Two to Talk”, by Elaine Weitzman and Jan Pepper.

I didn’t know anything was wrong with my son til he started school. A speech therapist tested the kids and he was found to be lacking, but was quickly fixed

Speak to your maternal child and health nurse. He should be saying some words but I was told that its more important that they understand what you’re saying and the words will come eventually.
