Hello!

Hi there, I have an 11 month old girl, and I’m a first time mum. I know there is a large age range for walking, but I’m just wondering when my baby will be ready. She crawled and stood at 8 months and can cruise super fast now and hold on with one hand. However she is reluctant to let go and so isn’t balancing by herself yet. Should I be worried? We have a strong family history of hip dysplasia, she was scanned at 6 weeks and was fine, and I will get her scanned again at a year, but wondering if this might affect walking if anyone has any experience? when should my child be walking?

  • My child started walking at 14 months.

  • The range is quite large and I wouldn’t worry just yet.

  • Baby will walk when baby is ready to walk, not when people say she should be walking. They’re all different and hit milestones at different ages. As long as they are hitting them, there’s no big drama

  • Mum of four and all of mine were 13 to 14 months my 13 month still isn’t walking , crawling everywhere , his happy and given its the norm with mine I’m not concerned . If bubs is meeting other cognitive milestones and engaging and progressing I wouldn’t be too concerned

  • MCHN say it isnt an issue unless at 18 months they arent weight baring!

  • Give it time, all babies develop at differently, there is nothing to worry about, most babies walk around the 11-16 month area but some may take a little longer. Dont stress, relax and enjoy the non walking stage because once they learn there is no holding them back :)

  • don’t be worried. i have 3 kids that all walked on their own time. 1st was 11months, 2nd was 16mths, 3rd was 14mths

I think that if they aren’t walking by 2 years then that is the time that you are supposed to see a doctor. a lot of kids are just happy enough to cruise or shuffle around for a long time lol my mates kid didn’t start walking till she was 22 months but “knee walked” everywhere lol

  • around one years old, but everyone is different:)

  • Every child is different and there is no set time frame of when they should be reaching milestones. She will walk when she is ready.

  • Just wondering when did she take those first steps?

  • Every child is different and your girl sounds right on track, walking can happen anywhere from 9 to 18 months!

  • how did it end up going?

  • I wouldn’t worry, ours was over twelve months before she decided walking was ok. And then running straight after!

  • When did she end up walking?

  • 1st daughter – 11.5 months
    2nd daughter – 12 months
    3rd daughter – 14 months

  • She will do it when she is ready, my daughter didn’t walk until she was 15 months.

  • Every child is different and walk at different stages – if you are concerned you can always talk to your child health nurse.

  • I am sure she will do it in her own time, it could be 2 or 3 months yet.

  • First Daughter – 11.5 months
    Second Daughter – 12 Months
    Third Daughter – 14 months

  • My daughter walked at 12 months and my son walked at 9 months. Babies really are all different, she;ll get there in her own time.
