I make my own with a 50/50 mix of tea tree oil and cheap conditioner. Works really well for me and much cheaper than the products available.

There are so many different treatments on the market but not all of them will work for everyone. You’ll just have to keep trying them until you find one that works

Treatments vary from person to person. The most important thing to do is to repeat the treatment to ensure all of the nits and eggs are gone.

Conditioner. Put it on dry hair and leave for 10 minutes. EASY. it smoothers the live lice and they die. Then comb out and wash. If I have time I like to remove eggs but this does require patience, some nice sunlight and good eyes. If I don’t have time then leave and let the eggs hatch. This is ok if you repeat conditoner treatment EVERY DAY for about 1 month. As the eggs hatch the live lice will be smoothered with conditioner and die before they have a chance to reproduce. Eventually the infestation goes.

My kids had so much headlice and we tried everything ! We would make a game from it to count them and I would remove hundreds sometimes more then thousand headlice. I would spent 2 hours daily to try to remove them, it was so frustrating and time consuming ! In the end somebody gave me the tip to use lice treadment for dogs. I didn’t like it but was so desperate that I went for it. I did it once I the lice never turned back.

put conditioner in the hair, and use a knit comb while wet. The products on the market are really harsh. We have only had head lice once, and used the conditioner trick. Also make sure that you wash all bed linen with some eucalyptus oil in it and put it in full sun, to kill any eggs. Soak their hairbrush in hot water and eucalyptus too and clean out any hair. Maybe even buy a new brush.

The best thing you can do is buy a tone of really cheap conditioner, put piles and piles of it in his hair (like enough to make it stand on end – you really can’t use too much) and then comb through with a really fine lice comb- don’t use the plastic ones they don’t work, you need to spend a bit more and buy a metal one that has the prongs as close together as possible.
The reason that you use conditioner is that it actually clogs up the lice’s gills and kills them and it also will get the eggs out too by making the hair really slippery.
Another thing you may like to know is that there is no need to wash all the bedding, etc. as the lice cannot survive without a host so they will not be living in the bedding or anything like that.
You might feel skeptical about this but take it from a grown woman who has had nits more in adult life than I ever did as a child. My ex-husband’s sister used to always get them and pass them around, and now my niece does the same thing too. Myself and my mother have both tried every treatment under the sun- the ones at the chemist and also remedies such as eucalyptus oil. The lice will simply build up an immunity to all of those so something that works once may not work the second time.
The only other important thing to remember is that you must treat the hair vigilantly- the first treatment of conditioner will not get rid of all of them. We usually do the same treatment about 3 nights in a row- depending on the severity of the infestation (sometimes we may do it 4 or 5 times if it is really bad) and then check again with the comb a few days later to make sure they are all gone. Good luck with it- they are nasty little things!
