Hello!

So I’m currently 11 weeks pregnant (yay!) with my partner of 1.5 years. We are so happy in our relationship; it even still feels like the honeymoon phase. I have a 7-year-old son from a previous relationship whose father is barely involved. My partner now is great with my son and my son now sees him as a role model, which I love to watch their relationship evolve. I’m worried that their relationship will change once the baby arrives, has anyone got any advice or suggestions on this?

  • By the sounds of it, you will not have a problem, day by day!!

  • It really depends on how your son goes with the new addition. I am a step mum and my husbands little boy (7) changed dramatically and our relationships (my husband and I and my step son and I) all changed due to the stress of what was happening and unfortunately 2 years on it is still an issue when he is in our home. I understand your concerns and they are valid as some people do love their own more than others and for some people that is just how it is. Good luck with it all.

  • There is no guarantee that the relationship will change/stay the same, go with the flow, assure your son that you love him no matter what and so does your new partner. Keep him involved in the life and happenings of the new bub. Congratulations, best of luck!

  • I would hope not. I suppose the whole dynamics of the family will change somewhat, but I think that if your partner is decent (which he sounds like he is) he will still have time for your 7 year old.
My sister had the same situation as you, she recently got married to her partner & he is going through the process of adopting her first son.
Good luck, I’m sure everything will work out fine.
