Big W’s Free Book initiative was a huge hit when it launched in February this year! And we’ve just heard that the promotion is back!

It looks like Big W is showing its customers that the giant retailer is here to stay by giving them much-loved freebies.

Starting This Week

The last time the promotion ran for 12 weeks in February earlier this year.

This time, the FREE BOOKS will be available from Thursday, 19 September and Big W will release a new book over eight weeks.

There will be eight books in total to collect.

The books have been selected for children aged between five and eight years old who are learning to read or looking for the first chapter book to explore.

Big W have picked 8 titles by Australian Authors to appeal to Aussie kids. They all talk to an Australian experience; covering indigenous, city and country kids. The books are written and illustrated by Australian authors and artists.

What Are The Books?

One Big W fan has posted on a Big W facebook group, a photo of the EIGHT free books which we will see popping up once a week in Big W stores really soon.

The eight free books that are part of the BIG W Free Books for kids campaign

Some parents are a bit disappointed that the books are a bit too mature for little ones. But the last batch of books were aimed at younger readers so it’s probably only fair that the bigger kids get a turn too.

Super Easy To Get FREE Books

It’s super easy to get your FREE BOOK.

All you have to do is go into your local Big W store and ask the friendly door greeter for your FREE book.

The free books are most probably going to be available in store only with limited stocks.

The free books are only available instore and there’s a limit of 3 books per family per visit.

A new book will be released each week for 8 weeks. and will be available while stocks last.

“At BIG W we believe in story time and that’s why we are giving Aussie families access to more books at home to build healthy minds and bright futures for Australia’s children,” Big W said.

The Free Books

The FREE books that were given out earlier in the year included:

Hush Little Possum
10 Silly Wombats
If You’re Happy and You Know It
There was an Old Lady who Swallowed a Mozzie
May Gibbs Tales from the Bush
The Bear went over the Mountain
The Wheels on the Ute Go Round and Round
Tortoise and the Hair
There was an Old Bloke who Swallowed a Chook
Hokey Pokey
10 Hooting Owls
May Gibbs Tales from the Gum Tree

This time round, the books are for slightly older kids (5-8 year olds) so the little ones may feel a bit left out. But you can just keep them for when they are old enough to enjoy them.

We absolutely LOVE this idea. Well done Big W!

  • My MIL does her grocery shopping in a centre with a Big W so hopefully she can grab them for us and put them away until the kids are a bit older 🙂

  • if the parents think they are too mature for their kids, get the book and put them away for a year or two, its simple.
with some parents you could give them a million dollars and they would be disappointed it wasnt 2 million.
i think people just like to whinge

  • Such a wonderful giveaway from BigW …helps children to foster the love of reading and even if their parents have little money to spend there is no problem as they are free. Promoting reading is awesome.

  • Great initiative, however we only ended up with some of the free books last time because my mum got us them when she was in-store. We live 400+Km from the nearest Big W to us. Not going to go to a store anytime soon!

  • I hope they anticipate the response this time and have enough to last past the first day, unlike last time. I only ended up with 2 because they were always out by the end of the first day

  • Good on you Big W. An awesome initiative. It would be great if they were made available to schools, somehow. But nonetheless, a super idea. And maybe we need to let Big W announce it, rather than pre-empt everything. We obviously can’t wait for anything anymore.
