A Unicorn Cake gone evil has sent the online baking world a-buzzing.

The popular unicorn cake has become a bit of a challenge for home-bakers as many have attempted to perfect the creation and share it online.

However, one amateur baker recently tried to make the cake using supermarket mudcakes and produced something which has been described as: a ‘terrifying’ creation complete with a red eyes, a clown-like mouth and a wonky horn, as reported in the Daily Mail.

The woman shared a photo of her attempt on facebook saying:

‘My unicorn attempt lol! All suggestions welcome. Thankfully, this was a trial,’ she wrote on Facebook alongside a snap of the failed cake.

As usual, comments were a mixed-bag. Some praised her efforts, while others had a laugh at her expense.

Kirsty commented ‘Omg this has made my night, I’m laughing so much I’ve got tears.’

Lauren said: ‘It’s great! My hubby’s even laughing.’

Pennyann giggled: ‘My gawwwd that’s funny… Unicorn from hell …’

This Is What Nightmares Are Made Of

There was a bit of a debate of what the cake actually looked like. Suggestions included a ‘cat with a tail’ and Spiderman and many commented that the cake looked evil and would be perfect for Halloween.

‘Looks like an evil cat,’ one commenter said, ‘but it will taste great I’m sure!’

While another was quite forthright: ‘This is what nightmares are made of.’

But it’s ‘made with love so it’s awesome in my opinion.’

Have you ever made a cake that turned out not as expected? Tell us in the comments below.

  • That cake definitely looks evil!! I’ve had my fair share of failed cake attempts. Tho nothing overly frightening! Usually it’s when I try to use rolled icing – disaster. So now I don’t! I stick to buttercream icing and decorate with lollies or sprinkles. But kids are kids and will love a cake made for them. (Unless it’s a mega fail in which case start over or buy a supermarket cake!)

  • That looks pretty awful. Is it an icecream cake?

  • I always make my kids cakes. Haven’t attempted any different styles then a plain round cake haha

  • I hired a cake tin that was a rabbit, the cake turned out amazing, it was the icing that let me down. I tried to do a lovely pale blue, unfortunately by the time I had finished mixing the colours it turned out a very dirty looking grey blue colour. Needless to say there was quite a bit left at the end of the party.

  • That cake is hilarious. I bet it tasted good though.

  • If it tastes good kids don’t care what it looks like just say there’s a new species of unicorn.

  • Haha, gold. Just a Mum fail but a funny one.

  • Yep, it’s a shocker, but I agree she deserves credit for effort.

  • That’s why I don’t make cakes for my kids and always buy them!

  • I’m not a great cake maker, but I think even I could’ve got this cake to look more like a unicorn then this person

  • It may not look the same as the original picture but good on her for giving it a go. I’d never attempt it. I’ve made a boom box, a princess bed, a ufo, a football boot and even a hockey field. They were simple compared to this unicorn. I love it and I’m sure the family did as well.

  • LOL that is pretty scary looking, but I have had a few that haven’t looked so great either- maybe not quite as bad as that one though!

  • Good on you for having a go!

  • I’m not a cake maker so I applaud anyone who gives it a go. As long as it tastes good…

At least she had a crack. It’s not easy

  • Definitely can relate I tried making a swiss roll and for some reason it turned out more like a crepe lol So understand how she is feeling.
At least she can sit back and laugh about it.

  • At least the lady tried. There are plenty who have never baked a cake, slice, biscuits or scones.
We have had failures with icing that simply would not thicken. I can’t remember how Mum salvaged it now but everybody at the party commented about it and wanted the recipe.

  • Well done to her for at least having a go! Plus, the proof of the pudding is in the eating …..
