A Unicorn Cake gone evil has sent the online baking world a-buzzing.

The popular unicorn cake has become a bit of a challenge for home-bakers as many have attempted to perfect the creation and share it online.

However, one amateur baker recently tried to make the cake using supermarket mudcakes and produced something which has been described as: a ‘terrifying’ creation complete with a red eyes, a clown-like mouth and a wonky horn, as reported in the Daily Mail.

The woman shared a photo of her attempt on facebook saying:

‘My unicorn attempt lol! All suggestions welcome. Thankfully, this was a trial,’ she wrote on Facebook alongside a snap of the failed cake.

As usual, comments were a mixed-bag. Some praised her efforts, while others had a laugh at her expense.

Kirsty commented ‘Omg this has made my night, I’m laughing so much I’ve got tears.’

Lauren said: ‘It’s great! My hubby’s even laughing.’

Pennyann giggled: ‘My gawwwd that’s funny… Unicorn from hell …’

This Is What Nightmares Are Made Of

There was a bit of a debate of what the cake actually looked like. Suggestions included a ‘cat with a tail’ and Spiderman and many commented that the cake looked evil and would be perfect for Halloween.

‘Looks like an evil cat,’ one commenter said, ‘but it will taste great I’m sure!’

While another was quite forthright: ‘This is what nightmares are made of.’

But it’s ‘made with love so it’s awesome in my opinion.’

Have you ever made a cake that turned out not as expected? Tell us in the comments below.

  • Have had a few cakes that did not look like they should. My oldest had a mouse cake that most people thought was a koala. I did a painter’s palette for 2nd son’s pre-school cake, struck real paint brushes in the thumb. The teachers thought I had used real paint splatters on the icing.
Learnt not to do butter cream icing with smarties all over the cake, so sickly sweet, not much cake was eaten.

  • Good on you for baking your own cake – everyone wants everything to be perfect and fake these days I would rather have a cake baked with love – and who cares what it looks like as long as it tastes good????

    • It is the indeed the thought and love that go into a cake that makes it delicious!

  • I have had some cake disasters – but you learn from doing it again and perfecting it! It would no doubt still taste delicious!
