I have a love/hate relationship with mopping. I hate doing it, but love having clean floors! So, I desperately wanted this latest innovation from Vileda – a convenient, easy, child and pet-safe way to clean floors – to live up to the hype. Can a dissolvable tablet really get up the grime left behind by two teenagers and a dog?

Thankfully, the answer is yes!

You may have seen a CleanTok hack doing the rounds, where mums are using dishwashing tablets dissolved in mop buckets to clean their floors. But here’s the issue – dishwashing tablets are designed for cleaning dishes! So as much as I loved the idea, I was never keen to try it because I didn’t want to ruin my floors.

Now the team at Vileda has developed the first-to-market PACS Floor Cleaning Tablets, specifically designed to be used on all floor types – from hardwood to tile, lino to vinyl. And after trying them out, I’ve literally been left wondering why nobody has thought of this earlier!

 What I Loved About Vileda PACS Floor Cleaning Tablets

Firstly, the convenience of these tablets is hard to pass up. They come in a pack of 10 or 24, and they take up very little room in the cleaning cupboard, unlike some bulky liquid floor cleaners.

Of course it’s also super easy to not have to measure out anything – I just need to fill the mop bucket with six litres of warm water and drop in one tablet. Simple.

The fact that the tablets contain no nasties is also top of my list. With kids and an inside dog, I don’t want to use harsh chemicals to get my floors clean, particularly when the floors need to be done at least once a week.

But the biggest reason I’ve loved trying out Vileda PACS Floor Cleaning Tablets, is because they work. I did a little experiment so I could see just how well they actually work on our mainly white vinyl plank flooring.

I put down a length of duct tape and mopped over it, before removing the tape to expose the part I hadn’t mopped. As you can see from the video and photos – the unmopped strip is nasty!! I couldn’t believe how much dirt and grime the tablet lifted – especially when I tipped out the dirty water.

It’s incredibly satisfying to be able to see the difference in my floors after they’ve been mopped.

  • This is definitely something I’m going to try. With 6 kids it only takes a day to look like it hasn’t been mopped. And I always worry I add too much product so that’s great.

  • Not something I’d purchase even though it is very convenient. If I only want to mop a small section of floor then I still have to fill the bucket with six litres of water and one tablet. Seems a bit wasteful and it is a little expensive if you wash your floors more than twice a week. I usually just add a splash of pine o Cleen or morning fresh. My kids are old enough and the dog licks the carpet (to clean her tongue I think, eww – we do tell her off) not the floorboards.

  • What a clever and hassle free way to clean floors. Actually surprised it hasn’t been done before. The price is a little off putting to be honest, but I’m sure they would regularly go on sale. Would be interested to see how strong the smell is but it all seems so promising.

  • Okay, so I just got finished mopping the floor with the Valida spring fresh Pacs and am very, very impressed with the results. I was worried I’d have to fill the mop bucket completely to dilute the powder but that worry wasn’t necessary. No soapy residue left behind once my tiles were dry. The scent is lovely, smells fresh and clean. As this article states, absolutely no chemical odour. I have an almost 1 year old zipping up and down the tiles and need to know that the floors are not only clean but not covered in harsh chemicals. This will definitely be in my cleaning rotation and would recommend it to others. Thanks MoM for another fab recommendation!!

  • Very keen to try these and will trek off tomorrow for a pack, but a tad inconvenient for them to be Bunnings exclusive. Great for Bunnings though

    • Hopefully in time when they become more popular other stores will start to sell them. They look great and I am keen to try them and buy a packet when i go to the Bunnings next. I haven’t yet had a chance to get there but love the look and idea of these.

  • I had never seen these before viewing the video review on MOM. Such a simple but efficient idea! I really like the article above which has now sold me on the idea and I will be picking up a pack on my next shop. We have 2 inside pets and busy teenagers so I would love to find an effective way to keep the floors sparkling clean and smelling fresh without the harsh chemicals.

  • As good as they might be, just another product to bump sales for Vileda. Pretty sure there’s lots of other, cheaper, products for floor cleaning. From harsh chemicals if that’s your thing to totally natural options. If someone gave me these, I’d use them, but I won’t be buying

  • These look interesting and I’d be interesting in giving them a go. I think price would be the deciding factor for me though. I change out my water several times while mopping so I feel like I’d go through a lot

  • This is a fantastic idea. So easy to use and it’s truly amazing how it brings up floors. I have rescue cats and the floors constantly need cleaning. Much smarter way to clean….thank you
