How do you like your egg boiled? Soft or hard? It’s never easy to get it perfect every time, especially for fussy kids. I’ve found a perfect chart to make it easy for you.

Boiled eggs

What you’ll need:

  • Saucepan
  • Water
  • Eggs

Method:

  1. Put your egg(s) in a saucepan and cover with cold water.
  2. Place saucepan on stovetop and bring water to the boil.
  3. When the water is boiling, turn off heat and place lid on the saucepan and leave for the number of minutes on chart below to get the egg cooked just the way you like it.

What an easy chart to follow to get your eggs cooked perfectly every time. I like the look of the 6 minute egg.

  • The chart is so easy to follow. Now I can have the perfect eggs every time for every occasion. I like the 6 minute ones if I’m having them straight away but I’d have the 15 minute ones if I’m going to have them cold or in a salad. Just going to put some on now.

  • as a scientist, this graph is a little bit too simplistic and doesn’t take into account many factors – such as egg size.

  • Im a hard boiled egg girl. I boil mine for about 8mins and then turn the stove off but leave the eggs in the pot for another 5mins.

  • I like the 3 minute egg, all gooey and soft. It reminds me of my dear mother and how she used to make us children soft boiled eggs and toast fingers on a cold winters day for breakfast. Love you mum and miss you terribly. You are my memory. Thanks for being the best you could possibly be…

  • I like the 4 or 6 minute eggs I think. Although being a bit runnier I could dip my soldier toast in them. Brings back memories of my childhood

  • Hubby will love this. I put mine in cold water, bring it to the boil and turn off the heat and leave for 10 mins to make curried egg sandwiches. Never done it for soft boiled tho

  • I would be interested to find out how long it should take to get about 2 cups of water in a saucepan to boil. I moved into a unit which has an electric cooktop – the top looks like glass. I am using the same new saucepan I bought only a month or two before I moved.

  • A very different way to boil an egg which l will give a go! Usually l boil for 3-4 mins and don’t turn the heat off!
