This year’s Easter, we’re stuck at home….with a mountain full of scrumptious Easter eggs.

With all this Easter deliciousness going on around you it would be pretty hard not to get caught up in the deliciously naughty side of Easter.

I’m not sure how your cupboards are all looking, but mine has died and gone to chocolate/sugar heaven with the shelves stacked with chocolate and sugar treats in all shapes and sizes.

So with a cupboard full of naughty going on, how do you manage to stay on track with your healthy eating and weight loss goals?

I have put together a few of my top tips to staying on track while you’re surrounded by Easter evil and you may be surprised that it doesn’t have to be as hard as you thought.

1. Don’t deprive yourself.

The biggest mistake people make is trying to go cold turkey this time of the year. I find this can only lead to one thing, and that’s a serious binging session. Easter only comes one time a year, so treat yourself – you deserve it!

2. Good things come in small doses.

Make sure while you’re enjoying some tasty treats, you don’t go too crazy and eat too much. You should have just enough to satisfy the craving, but not too much that you’re adding too much sugar and calories to your daily intake. A small handful of eggs/chocolate is a safe amount and shouldn’t do too much damage!

3. Train your way through the evil.

If you’re going to be a little bit naughtier than you usually would and you don’t want to put on weight, then I suggest cranking up the training to help burn away the evil. It’s all a balancing act:

Calories In (food consumed) – Calories Out (energy your body uses) = Energy Balance

This means if you consume more calories, you need to burn more energy to maintain the balance. I know around Easter time I really crank up my cardio to help burn the extra calories I’m consuming.

4. Don’t let Easter treat time drag on for too long.

While It’s a good thing to treat yourself at Easter time, it shouldn’t become your new normal eating habit. Spoil yourself for a few days and then try to wean yourself off the daily chocolate/sugar treats and back to your normal healthy eating plan.

5. Toss Away the excess evil.

In any other year, we would recommend donating all the excess eggs. But with all this Coronavirus business, we’re not sure if this would be such a good idea. Just take a deep breath and toss away the extra chocolate, if you feeling your resolve dissolve.

  • I put the sweets stash out of sight other wise they’ll be demolished by the kids, husband and grandpa. In saying this I do not deprive anyone of sweets if they would like some.

  • Hubby and I usually have our own stash that we like to sit and and enjoy of a night time while watching tv. I think though, if I have too much I wake with a migraine the next morning, so that will keep me in line for not over doing it

  • its going to be hard as chocolate is divine. Unfortunately I also like to keep buying Easter eggs after Easter as they get so discounted.

  • I’ve no weight loss goals but love healthy yummy foods. I’ve no trouble to stay away from high sugary foods and do not crave them, but each of us is different. I sure have Easter treats in the cupboards to spoil my husband and my children

  • Personally I’d rather a block of dark chocolate rather than Easter eggs. I only eat four squares (1 row) each night so I don’t over indulge.

  • We have put all of our Easter eggs in a bowl for everyone to enjoy when they come into the house. They’ll all be gone soon. And, we regifted some unexpected chocolate that my son received. It was unnecessary, not needed, and we’d already had a discussion about it. So when a LARGE block of chocolate arrived for my son who has just had braces off, we were not too impressed. It’s now with someone who will love and enjoy it.

  • Good tip !
    I didn’t stack my cupboards on naughty foods, but bought a good amount of raw cacao butter to make raw chocolate, baked healthy hot cross buns, wholemeal seeded bread chicks, and some expensive carob eggs (which have nothing naughty and no sugar). Don’t think our calorie intake is really higher, so no need to compensate, which feels good.
    Kids are excited we’re going to make Homemade Gluten Free Matzoh Squares this afternoon. In our opinion Easter treats don’t have to be unhealthy at all.

  • I must admit, I’m a bit on the naughty side at Easter and do over indulge. Must try to ‘be good’ this year and not eat too much chockie-problem is I but the stuff I like!! Great article and I promise to try and stay on track.

  • If I buy myself Easter eggs, I know I won’t over indulge because I don’t like the chocolate used to make them so I don’t eat much lol
