Hello!

It’s been just a few weeks since the Royal Australian Mint released offical Bluey commemorative coins, and now the limited edition collectables are going for hugely inflated prices on eBay – with one seller asking for $100,000.

The Official Bluey Dollarbucks became available in June, via a ballot process, with thousands of Bluey fans disappointed at missing out on the unique collector’s items. And it didn’t take long for the coins to pop up on reselling pages, with an asking price in the hundreds of dollars.

Mouths of Mums members were furious at the huge price markup.

“These people are thieves,” commented one mum on the Mouths of Mums Facebook page.

“They don’t care that people genuinely entered the ballot to collect these, they’re out to make money.  My SIL and I both entered and lost, and whilst I wasn’t too disappointed for myself, I’m so disappointed for this behaviour taking away from others that did really want them. They shouldn’t have to pay hundreds for a $1 coin.”

“Didn’t get any – absolutely disgusting as I’m a genuine collector and spend a lot of money with the mint,” another mum said.

Resellers are still continuing to list the coins, now for thousands of dollars.

The three exclusive designs feature Bluey, The Heeler Family and The Grannies and were able to be purchased as individual coin cards or as a Coloured Three-Coin Collection.

  • I listed mine for $15,000 to see if there were any generous people who’d buy it. I need a new car and have no choice but to sell things. Had to leave work due to my 25 weeker son who is has chronic health issues. No body bought it :( worth a shot though!

  • The best way to deal with this is to just not bid or buy it??

  • Hard to believe for me that this collectable has value for people

    Reply

  • It’s a shame, but it happens with all collectables.

  • And isn’t this suppose to be a fun collection thing for kids. Taking away from the real point… making kids happy

  • People always do this and if others are silly enough to buy them then that is their fault.

  • I’d have liked to have purchased a set, but they were overpriced to begin with.

  • I just had a look and can’t see if. I did get a set from the mint. Maybe I should sell mine for a lot to help with bubs. I had to stop working because my baby was born at 25 weeks and money is very tight. If someone bought mine for 100k that would help so much!

  • Greedy people are becoming ridiculous. Asking so much is mind boggling.

  • It should be criminal to offer for sale at these ridiculous prices. Please. I hope no one pays it and they’re left with them.

  • Crazy stuff. I suppose that what happens with collectables. But seriously sell them in 20 or 30 years time when they have had a chance to earn their dollar bucks.

  • That’s just what people do….

  • It definitely seems like a ridiculous figure, but it happens with all collectibles. Just look at what happened with the gnomes at Bunnings. If someone REALLY wants to pay that for it, why stop them from spending their money how they want. If the poster can make their lives easier making money off them then why not?

  • I think it’s a ridiculous ask, but this happens with collectables of all kinds.

    Reply

  • Unfortunately this is what a free market is all about.

    Reply

  • Not a fan of Bluey to me it just seems to be out to make money

  • What they ask and what they get are two different things. These items are made for collecting so it’s always going to happen but it’s sad that many can’t get hold of one if they want to.

    Reply

  • Why on earth would anyone pay that for something. I would just keep scrolling.

    Reply

  • Maybe, or just don’t pay it? Yes it’s ridiculous, but only if someone actually pays that amount.

    Reply

  • It’s ridiculous the amount they’re asking for but it happens all the time. I’d love to buy them for my Great Grandchildren but I’d never pay more than $10 for them. These people are just like the ones who ring up and try to get you into a scheme so they can get your bank details and take your money
