Hello!

Usually a baby shower is all about celebrating the arrival of a little bundle of joy, but for Raquel Rodriguez Soto it was a celebration of something completely different.

Even though Raquel Rodriguez Soto looked pregnant, the US woman was actually suffering with a 28cm ovarian cyst. So she decided to see the lighter side of the situation and have a baby shower for her cyst, which she named ‘Cystiana’.

Her friends and family joined her in ‘celebrating’ a baby shower for Cystiana, before Raquel had surgery to remove the 5kg growth. She’s shared the entire journey on her TikTok account, including a baby shower video.

@rockiesoto33Here’s my early birthday party/ ovarian cyst (baby shower) ???????????????????? s/o to my family & friends for the best night.

Adding to the hilarity, Raquel also had a ‘maternity’ shoot with her bump, but she’s also used her platform to help educate other women about ovarian cysts.

“We’re gonna talk about some symptoms you can have with a cyst, specifically an ovarian cyst. I’m not a doctor, I’m not a professional, these are just my symptoms and my personal experience.

“My cyst five years ago was about 8cm. Now typically if they grow bigger than 5cm they need to be taken out. My cyst is pushing up against my bladder so with that comes a lot of urinary issues. I dealt with bad kidney infections five years ago, I was in and out of hospital.”

Other symptoms Raquel had included:

  • Extreme bloating
  • Pressure
  • Pain with intercourse
  • Loss of appetite
  • Hormone issues
  • Constipation

Raquel finally had her cyst removed on June 9th, with tests revealing it wasn’t cancerous however her right ovary and fallopian tube are damaged. “But my left ovary, tube and uterus are in perfect condition!!”

  • wow…. that is some huge cyst. I bet she felt so much better once it was removed and im sure many people would ask her when the baby was due. people that saw her before surgery and then after probably wondered where the bub was and if they should even ask.

  • Sorry but this just seems stupid to me.

  • Good on her to make that a “positive ” thing. I don’t think I will react like her .

  • It’s great that she could maintain her sense of humour throughout it all, the poor thing

  • I love her attitude and that she was able to celebrate with family and friends to say goodbye to her cyst. It’s wonderful that she still has one ovary, fallopian tube and her uterus still in perfect working order.

  • Glad she saw the lighter side of it and was trying to educate people but without the back story it sounds very strange.

  • Glad she is seeing the lighter side of it. Not sure I would have.

  • Five years? That’s awful and now she has damage to one of her ovaries and a fallopian tube, The US health system seems so wrong.

  • Why didn’t they remove it when it was 8cm? Good she is educating peoplethough

  • How could the medical profession allow it to get that big before removing it? Something doesn’t seem right to me.

    Reply

  • That’s insane how big it was. Good on her for using it as a chance to shed light on the issue.

    Reply

  • Yeah it definitely should have been removed years ago. Glad she’s raising awareness on ovarian cysts though.

  • Oh wow! Love how she stayed so positive. What an amazing person..
